The man with a towel made complete sense. After a day of temperatures in the 90’s, the Nashua-Plainfield gymnasium was still toasty when North Butler’s volleyball team came to town on Tuesday. Doors were open and big fans were set up to to cool things down. Everyone was soaked, but at least one spectator high in the N-P bleachers came prepared with a hand towel to dry his face. Sweat in the eyes would have distracted from the match playing out in front of him. The Huskies went on to win 3-1, but the sets were tight. Cedar River (above Nashua) Check ice depths often, especially where there is current. Flows remain high. Go with a buddy. Let someone know where you are going and when you will return. OSSIAN — The Nashua-Plainfield girls golf team advanced to the Class 1A regional finals after placing second as a team Monday in the first round for Region 3C at the Silver Springs Golf Course in Ossian. Ice Cream Ticket Season begins May 15 in Nashua

NASHUA — It’s almost Ice Cream Ticket Season! Snow expected to begin Sunday, mess with Monday morning commute

A winter weather advisory that includes Chickasaw, Floyd and Mitchell counties will be in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday. Another 2 to 4 inches of spring snow will fall across southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa, according to the National Weather Service. Some travel impacts can be expected, especially Sunday night into the Monday morning commute. Plan on slippery road conditions. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times. Hail no! North Central Iowa hit again by destructive storms

Wednesday evening’s storms struck fast and furiously. At about 6 p.m., the Charles City Fire Department reported “many trees and powerlines down throughout (the) county, making many roads impassable.” A minute later, a spotter reported a tree branch knocking out power lines south of Charles City. These were two of many reports compiled by the National Weather Service about the high winds, hail and heavy rain that tore into north central Iowa Wednesday, May 17. NASHUA — Although 75 mph winds were reported in Nashua and 1-inch hail in Charles City, the severe thunderstorms that raced through the region Monday evening saved its worse for locales farther east.   In New Hampton, as a rainbow spread above Nashua, 2-inch hail fell in the hard rain and high winds. Those winds sped up to 82 mph by the time they reached Calmar in Winneshiek County. In Fayette County, roofs blew off in numerous areas.
