Trial scheduled in Floyd County family’s fight with CO2 pipeline company

A Floyd County family’s fight to keep pipeline surveyors off its property is scheduled to go to trial in August. Summit Carbon Solutions, LLC, which plans to construct a carbon capture pipeline through Iowa, filed suit on Dec. 20 against Gary L., John E., Sandra K. and Joshua Lee Marth and the Marth Family Revocable Trust. The company claims state law gives it the right to enter and survey private property for its project. West Union man sent to prison over vehicular homicide

A West Union man is going to prison for causing causing the death of a passenger last fall when he crashed a BMW Mini Cooper while fleeing law enforcement. Curtis Allen Williams, 38, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Chickasaw County District Court to vehicular homicide (Class B felony), attempting to elude while operating while intoxicated (Class D felony), and first-offense OWI (serious misdemeanor). He was given maximum sentences of, respectively, 25 years, 5 years and 1 year. He was ordered to pay a fine of $1,025 plus a surcharge of $187.50. Huck places 1st twice as 5 Huskies notch top 10 finishes at Wartburg invite

Nashua-Plainfield’s boys and girls varsity track and field teams competed in the Wartburg High School Invitational on Tuesday in Waverly. The 30-school field ranged from Class 1A to Class 4A. Nashua woman pleads guilty to pantry burglary

A Nashua woman arrested last fall for burglarizing the Nashua Area Food Pantry has pleaded guilty in Chickasaw Count District Court and was sentenced to probation. Desteney Dawn Olson, 42, reached an agreement with prosecution to plead guilty to third-degree burglary (Class D felony). A misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree criminal mischief was dismissed. She was placed on two years of probation on a suspended prison sentence of up to 5 years and a suspended $1,025 fine plus $153.73 surcharge. Olson was arrested Friday, Oct. 7, by the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office after investigating burglary reports at the pantry.
