Good morning. It’s Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, and here’s what’s happening in the Nashua area. • WEATHER — We are expected to get around an inch of snow today, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Today’s high will be near 33 with a southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Be aware of slick roads. Tonight, there is a 90% chance of more snow, mainly before 11 p.m., with a low around 26. The calm wind will be northwest around 6 mph after midnight. Overall, we could get around two inches of snow. Oelwein to host cross country state qualifying meet

Oelwein, Monticello, Orange City, Pella, and Shenandoah are host sites this year for the Class 2A boys and girls cross country IHSAA and IGHSAU state qualifying meets, which all will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20. These teams will compete at Hickory Grove Golf Course in Oelwein: Anamosa, Aplington-Parkersburg, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Crestwood, Denver, Dike-New Hartford, Eagle Grove, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, New Hampton, North Fayette Valley, Oelwein, Osage, Roland-Story, Starmont and Williamsburg. N-P football keeps streaks alive with 20-6 win at BCLUW Homecoming

HUSKIES LIFT SEASON RECORD TO 4-1 Nashua-Plainfield’s offense was really good at keep-away Friday night in Conrad. The Huskies rushed 58 times for 364 yards — both season highs — keeping the ball out of the hands of the BCLUW offense. And when the Comets had the ball, N-P took it right back, twice with interceptions. The 20-6 victory at BCLUW’s Homecoming lifted N-P to 4-1, keeping a couple of winning streaks alive. The man with a towel made complete sense. After a day of temperatures in the 90’s, the Nashua-Plainfield gymnasium was still toasty when North Butler’s volleyball team came to town on Tuesday. Doors were open and big fans were set up to to cool things down. Everyone was soaked, but at least one spectator high in the N-P bleachers came prepared with a hand towel to dry his face. Sweat in the eyes would have distracted from the match playing out in front of him. The Huskies went on to win 3-1, but the sets were tight. Huskies win Homecoming, 32-12

Junior Titus Evans and sophomore Aiden Gelner combined for 218 of Nashua-Plainfield’s 253 rushing yards Friday night as the Huskies pounded out a 32-12 Homecoming victory over North Tama. Evans ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Gelner had 133 yards and two touchdowns, including the longest of the day for N-P of 41 yards. He also scored a 2-point conversion. Huskies senior quarterback Bo Harrington found some success in the air by completing five passes for 101 yards and one touchdown, which was a 23-yard reception by senior Joel Winters. COVID-19 update: 11,671 positive cases, 252 deaths in Iowa

UPDATE, May 9, 2020 — Iowa’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 252 as of Friday. The total number of Iowans testing positive for the illness now at 11,671, with 5,011 confirmed recoveries, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health A total 71,475 Iowans have been tested. Iowa’s population is roughly 3.155 million. Test Iowa sites are now open in Des Moines, Waterloo, Sioux City, Cedar Rapids, Denison and Davenport. Number of COVID-19 cases in Iowa rises to 8,641

STATE NEWS RELEASE, Saturday, May 2, 2020 DES MOINES – Today, the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has been notified of 757 additional positive cases for a total of 8,641 positive cases. There have been an additional 3,377 negative tests for a total of 41,085 negative tests to date, which includes testing reported by the State Hygienic Lab and other labs. 87 percent of new positive cases today are in the 22 counties where restrictions remain in place. 493 of the new 757 positive cases are from Black Hawk, Dallas, Polk and Woodbury counties. Floyd County has no confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Monday, April 20, but only 91 people have been testes, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health. Statewide, 3,159 cases have been confirmed with 1,235 confirmed recoveries, while 79 people have died. A total 25, 820 people have been tested. Chickasaw County has three confirmed cases after 94 tests. Cerro Gordo County has 14 confirmed cases with 12 recoveries after 638 tests. Iowa Governor’s Office news release — Mon, 04/20/2020 – 16:50 DES MOINES – Today, the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has been notified of 257 additional positive cases for a total of 3,159 positive cases. There have been additional 660 negative tests for a total of 18,543 negative tests to date, which includes testing reported by the State Hygienic Lab and other labs.
