A tractor pull held Saturday, June 3, at the Big 4 Fairgrounds raised funds for Nashua causes. Handwritten signs around the grandstand announced that all donations would go to “Help Save The Cabin,” the Nashua Fireman Foundation, the Gateway to Northern Iowa Welcome Center, the Children’s Cancer Connection and the Big 4 Fair. Franzen foils, Kalainoff blasts Green Devils

Down by 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd, Nashua-Plainfield had a runner on base and needed something to pop. That’s when Eli Kalainoff stepped up to the plate. Statistically he was just the right guy to drive in the tying run. Through the first six games of the season, the freshman outfielder was batting .529 with seven singles, two doubles and 6 RBIs. Huskies beat Saints, 7-0

Nashua-Plainfield’s Dawson Glaser pitched seven shutout innings Wednesday to ice a 7-0 win against Saint Ansgar. Making his second start on the mound this season, Glaser struck out seven batters while walking none and scattering five hits. In his first outing on May 23, he pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out 12 in N-P’s 5-3 win over Central Springs. N-P improved its record to 4-1. The Saints fell to 5-3. Fayette County Sheriff’s Report: Domestic abuse arrests, deer and tractor crashes

Postville man arrested on false imprisonment, domestic abuse charges On Saturday, May 27, a Fayette County deputy took custody of Robert Williams, 39, of Postville, after a month-long investigation. Williams allegedly had been abusing his victim inside their shared residence and often would not allow his victim to leave the residence. Williams was arrested outside Postville on two counts of domestic abuse and false imprisonment and transported to the Fayette County Jail. Williams was later released on a $12,000 bond. Cresco man drowns in New Hampton

The drowning death of a 52-year-old Cresco man on Monday in New Hampton was accidental, said Chickasaw County Sheriff Randy Shawver. At 1:40 p.m. Monday, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that someone was drowning at the Airport Lake Park, 2047 190th Street, New Hampton. Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene immediately and initiated a water rescue, Shawver said. At 5:56 p.m., divers, from Iowa Underwater Search and Rescue, recovered the body of Alvaro Valdivia Barranco.
