A tractor pull held Saturday, June 3, at the Big 4 Fairgrounds raised funds for Nashua causes. Handwritten signs around the grandstand announced that all donations would go to “Help Save The Cabin,” the Nashua Fireman Foundation, the Gateway to Northern Iowa Welcome Center, the Children’s Cancer Connection and the Big 4 Fair. N-P wrestlers finish 5th and 8th; Rinkens go for State titles tonight

Three of Nashua-Plainfield’s wrestlers finished in the top eight of their weight classes during Saturday’s Class 1A morning session at the State Traditional Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines. Two more will chase championships this evening. Sophomore Nic Brase (106) placed fifth, junior Titus Evans (170) took fifth, and senior Kendrick Huck (132) finished eighth. N-P to open football playoffs next week against West Hancock

To be the best, you need to beat the best. Nashua-Plainfield will get that chance on Friday, Oct. 21, when the Huskies (5-3) open the playoffs against one of the five undefeated teams in Class A. West Hancock, Britt (8-0) will host N-P in the first round of the 32-team state tournament. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Hudson 4-4, which beat N-P on Friday 20-14 to finish third in Class A District 4, will travel to to Newman Catholic, Mason City (7-1) on Friday. N-P fell to fourth. By the Iowa DNR The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public comment on the DNR’s intent to withdraw the Cedar River watershed nitrate total maximum daily load (TMDL). TMDLs include analyses and methods for improving water quality for water bodies on the state’s Clean Water Act 303d impaired waters list. In 2006, the DNR finalized a TMDL for nitrate in the Cedar River. The DNR created the Cedar River TMDL due to the nitrate impairment in the segment of the Cedar River which Cedar Rapids uses as a source for municipal drinking water. Saint Ansgar snapped Nashua-Plainfield volleyball’s win streak at two Thursday night. The Saints (14-10) defeated the Huskies (5-16) by a score of 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 16-25, 25-17). Game stats for the Huskies were not immediately available. N-P took a 7-0 lead in the third set and went on to win 25-16. N-P football keeps streaks alive with 20-6 win at BCLUW Homecoming

HUSKIES LIFT SEASON RECORD TO 4-1 Nashua-Plainfield’s offense was really good at keep-away Friday night in Conrad. The Huskies rushed 58 times for 364 yards — both season highs — keeping the ball out of the hands of the BCLUW offense. And when the Comets had the ball, N-P took it right back, twice with interceptions. The 20-6 victory at BCLUW’s Homecoming lifted N-P to 4-1, keeping a couple of winning streaks alive. The man with a towel made complete sense. After a day of temperatures in the 90’s, the Nashua-Plainfield gymnasium was still toasty when North Butler’s volleyball team came to town on Tuesday. Doors were open and big fans were set up to to cool things down. Everyone was soaked, but at least one spectator high in the N-P bleachers came prepared with a hand towel to dry his face. Sweat in the eyes would have distracted from the match playing out in front of him. The Huskies went on to win 3-1, but the sets were tight.
