Nashua-Plainfield to play South Winneshiek in first-round of football playoffs

Nashua-Plainfield travels to Calmar on Friday to take on South Winneshiek in the first round of the Class A all-team playoffs. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and admission is $6. As members of Pod 6, the winner moves on to the second round Friday, Oct. 23 to play the winner of Bishop Garrigan, Algona at Lake Mills Class A has 59 teams in the playoffs divided into 16 pods. NASHUA — Nashua-Plainfield ran away with first place on Saturday as it hosted a 12-team tournament. Three Huskies won their weight classes: freshman Garret Rinken (106), Kendrick Huck (113) and Jakob Whitinger (120). Seven Huskies placed second: Trey Nelson (126), McKade Munn (138), Shane Hillesheim (152), Cael Brunner (160), Derik Downing (170), Evan Kalainoff (182) and Dalton Asche (195). Just last Wednesday, April 18, a record 6.6 inches of snow fell across Charles City and the Comets’ home course. DES MOINES — The highest finish possible for area wrestlers at the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament is third place. Brock Dietz of Nashua-Plainfield will wrestle for that on Saturday in the 106 pound bracket of Class 1A.
