NEW HAMPTON — Outscored by 12 points in the first quarter of Tuesday night’s road game, the Comets rallied to put up 21 points in the second. At the half, New Hampton led 34-28.

The Chickasaws held on in the second half to win for the first time this season, 54-45

Both teams are now 1-4 overall.

Riceville 60, Valley Lutheran 6

CEDAR FALLS — Riceville remains unbeaten this season after defeating Valley Lutheran by 54 points on the road Tuesday night. It’s the largest margin of victory for the Raiders since Dec. 19, 2017, when they dropped CAL, Latimer 76-14.

Riceville is two wins away from tying last year’s total. The Raiders went 5-17 last season.

Newman Catholic 58, Nashua-Plainfield 44

MASON CITY — Newman Catholic managed to go into halftime Tuesday night with a 1-point lead over visiting Nashua-Plainfield, 24-23.

Newman Catholic put up 21 points in the third quarter to N-P’s 8, putting the game out of reach for the Huskies. Both squads scored 13 in the final frame.

N-P is 1-4 so far this season.
