Down by 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd, Nashua-Plainfield had a runner on base and needed something to pop. That’s when Eli Kalainoff stepped up to the plate. Statistically he was just the right guy to drive in the tying run. Through the first six games of the season, the freshman outfielder was batting .529 with seven singles, two doubles and 6 RBIs. Turns out he had a bit more to offer. Kalainoff unleashed a 2-run home run to put N-P in the lead. Nashua-Plainfield to play South Winneshiek in first-round of football playoffs

Nashua-Plainfield travels to Calmar on Friday to take on South Winneshiek in the first round of the Class A all-team playoffs. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and admission is $6. As members of Pod 6, the winner moves on to the second round Friday, Oct. 23 to play the winner of Bishop Garrigan, Algona at Lake Mills Class A has 59 teams in the playoffs divided into 16 pods. IGHSAU News Release      Nashua-Plainfield coach Jeff Trost is the 2020 golf recipient of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Golden Plaque of Distinction Award. Trost will be honored at the 2021 Iowa GIrls State Golf  Meet.      The IGHSAU Golden Plaque of Distinction Award honors the Iowa coach who has demonstrated a successful career while making notable contributions toward school, community and the coaching profession.     Trost has been coaching the golf team at Nashua-Plainfield for 41 seasons. NASHUA — Nashua-Plainfield ran away with first place on Saturday as it hosted a 12-team tournament. Three Huskies won their weight classes: freshman Garret Rinken (106), Kendrick Huck (113) and Jakob Whitinger (120). Seven Huskies placed second: Trey Nelson (126), McKade Munn (138), Shane Hillesheim (152), Cael Brunner (160), Derik Downing (170), Evan Kalainoff (182) and Dalton Asche (195). Kollyn Lentz (145) and Jarrett Peterson (275) each placed sixth for N-P. The Huskies as a team collected 200 points. Second-place Hudson had 139.5. NASHUA — Rockford’s Kaden Lyman qualified for State Friday as he led the Warriors to a third-place finish at the boys golf District meet held Friday at the Nashua Town and Country Club. CHARLES CITY — Great Scott, area prep golfer has a meet Monday at Cedar Ridge Golf Course. Just last Wednesday, April 18, a record 6.6 inches of snow fell across Charles City and the Comets’ home course. On Monday, there was no snow, no sleet, no bitter cold, and not even flooding, fire or ice. Matter of fact, the temperature peaked at 68 degrees here as the golfers hit the greens.
