Nashua-Plainfield is home to two 2023 Class 1A state champions. Senior Garret Rinken completed an undefeated season, 51-0, by beating Wapsie Valley senior Dawson Schmit (40-8) by a 4-1 decision in the 126-pound championship match on Saturday at the State Traditional Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines. His younger brother, sophomore Jayden Rinken (47-2), defeated Wilton freshman Mason Shirk (47-4) by an 8-2 decision in the 106-pound championship match. CC’s Blunt takes 8th at State Wrestling Tournament

Charles City senior Kayden Blunt (29-7) placed eighth in the Class 2A 182-weight class at the State Traditional Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines last week. Blunt, seeded no. 8 in the 182-pound weight class, was upset in his tournament opening match on Wednesday. No. 9 Jace Mulder, a senior from Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, pinned Blunt in 28 seconds. Seven Nashua-Plainfield wrestlers have survived the first two days of the State Tradition Tournament in Des Moines. Four remain in contention for first-place finishes. Huskies Jayden Rinken (106), Nic Brase (113), Garrett Rinken (126) and Titus Evans (170) have advanced to the semifinals on Friday. Huskies advancing to Friday in the consolation bracket are Kendrick Huck (132), Kaden Wilken (138) and Alden Sullivan (195). Nashua-Plainfield placed second as a team at the Hudson Wrestling Invitational that wrapped up Saturday. Don Bosco took first with 232 team points, followed by N-P with 202.5, according to Track Wrestling. Four Huskies made it to their weight class championship matches, with two winning. Nic Brase took first at 113 by defeating Don Bosco’s Cole Frost in an 8-3 decision. Garret Rinken won the 126 title by pinning North Fayette Valley’s Tate Germann at 1:16. The Nashua-Plainfield boys wrestling team hit the road Thursday night and picked up three dual victories in Garner. The Huskies beat Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 68-12, Newman Catholic 75-3 and Lake Mills 56-19. N-P’s Kendrick Huck (132) had three pins at the quad. Altogether, the Huskies scored 18 pins.
