Nashua-Plainfield is home to two 2023 Class 1A state champions.
Senior Garret Rinken completed an undefeated season, 51-0, by beating Wapsie Valley senior Dawson Schmit (40-8) by a 4-1 decision in the 126-pound championship match on Saturday at the State Traditional Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.
His younger brother, sophomore Jayden Rinken (47-2), defeated Wilton freshman Mason Shirk (47-4) by an 8-2 decision in the 106-pound championship match.
The Rinkens were two of the 13 N-P wrestlers that competed this year in the tournament at Wells Fargo Arena. Competition began Wednesday and wrapped up Saturday night.
Three other Huskies placed in their weight classes. Sophomore Nic Brase (106) placed fifth, junior Titus Evans (170) took fifth, and senior Kendrick Huck (132) finished eighth.
As a team, the Huskies finished 3rd, which is also where they finished in the State Duals Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
