7 Huskies advance to Friday session of Class 1A State Wrestling Tournament

Seven Nashua-Plainfield wrestlers have survived the first two days of the State Tradition Tournament in Des Moines. Four remain in contention for first-place finishes.

Huskies Jayden Rinken (106), Nic Brase (113), Garrett Rinken (126) and Titus Evans (170) have advanced to the semifinals on Friday.

Huskies advancing to Friday in the consolation bracket are Kendrick Huck (132), Kaden Wilken (138) and Alden Sullivan (195).

The tournament is over for Hayden Munn (120), Jackson Carey (152), Eli Kalainoff (160), Tate White (182), Jackson Zwanziger (220) and Landon Pratt (285).

As a team, Nashua-Plainfield is in second with 74 points. Don Bosco leads with 87. Wilton is in third with 68.

The Huskies have the most pins among Class 1A teams with 11. Don Bosco has 9.

The next session of Class 1A wrestling begins at 9 a.m. on Friday

Below are individual summaries of today’s action.

JAYDEN RINKEN (2-0, 10 pts)

Sophomore Jayden Rinken (45-2), seeded no. 1 at 106, won by a 10-0 major decision over no. 8 Reanah Utterback (36-9), a sophomore from Signourney-Keota. He’s done wrestling for the day and will face no. 5 Cooper Hinz, a freshman from Jesup, in the semifinals on Friday. Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m.

NIC BRASE (2-0, 10 pts)

Sophomore Nic Brase (42-6), no. 6 at 113, won the quarterfinal match against no. 3 Case Monat (36-4), a junior from North Tama, by a 16-3 major decision. He’s done wrestling today. On Friday, he will face no. 2 Cael Morrow (36-1) in the semifinals,

HAYDEN MUNN (1-2, 2 pts)

Junior Hayden Munn (37-16), no. 19 at 120, has been eliminated. In the consolation bracket this morning, No. 20 at 120 Josh Winey (30-16), a freshman from Earlham, defeated him by a 12-7 decision.

GARETT RINKEN (2-0, 13 pts)

Senior Garrett Rinken (49-0), no. 1 at 126, won his quarterfinal match against no. 9 Carson Thomsen (20-7), a junior from Underwood, by a 9-2 decision. He is done wrestling for the day. On Friday, he will take on no. 4 Preston Klosterman (32-5), a sophomore from Alburnett, in the semifinals

KENDRICK HUCK (2-1, 6 pts)

Senior Kendrick Huck (34-10), no. 7 at 132, started his day in wrestle backs by pinning no. 24 Jack Branan (22-18), a freshman from Riverside at 1:14.

Next, he won by fall at 5:37 over No. 17 Sam Myer (26-13), a sophomore from St. Edmond.

Huck’s next match is against no. 6 Dylan Stein (41-4) a sophomore from Lenox.

KADEN WILKEN (2-1, 8 pts)

Senior Kaden Wilken (36-17), no. 12 at 138, lost his opening match today. No. 4 Myles McMahon (36-6), a senior from Don Bosco, won their quarterfinal match by a 10-5 decision.

Wilken is done wrestling for the day. On Friday, his opening match in the consolation bracket will be against no. 16 John Helton (51-11), a senior at St. Albert.

JACKSON CAREY (1-2, 4 pts)

Sophomore Jackson Carey (35-15), no. 17 at 152, was eliminated from the tournament when no. 15 Kile Bucknell (35-12), a junior at Jesup, won their wrestle back by fall at 3:58.

ELI KALAINOFF (0-2)

Freshman Eli Kalainoff (36-16), no. 18 at 160, was eliminated from the tournament when no. 16 Quinn McGeough (45-12), a sophomore from MFL MarMac, won their wrestle back by fall at 4:53.

TITUS EVANS (2-0, 11 pts)

Junior Titus Evans (29-6), no. 6 at 170, upset no. 3 Jack Clarahan (41-3), a senior from Sigourney-Keota, in the quarterfinals. Evans won by a 9-8 decision.

Evans is done wrestling today. On Friday, he will face no. 2 Jace Nelson-Brown (38-6), a junior from Emmetsburg, in the semifinals.

TATE WHITE (0-2)

Junior Tate White (30-14), no. 12 at 182, was eliminated from the tournament when no. 6 Dillen Ammons (39-5), a senior at Pleasantville, won their wrestle back by a 4-0 decision.

AIDEN SULLIVAN (3-1, 10 pts)

Junior Aiden Sullivan (42-12), no. 9 at 195, won his first wrestle back match of the day by fall at a 3:02 over no. 23 Drew Diers (33-18), a senior at WACO. He followed that up with a pin at 2:58 of no. 17 Parker Timp (20-12), a junior from South Winneshiek.

Sullivan is done wrestling for the day. On Friday, his opening match will be against no. 13 Ben Saxton (40-5), a senior at Emmetsburg.

JACKSON ZWANZIGER (0-2)

Senior Jackson Zwanziger (26-22), no. 24 at 220, was eliminated from the tournament when no. 7 Wyatt Hanna (39-6), a sophomore from Lake Mills, won their wrestle back by a 9-2 decision.

LANDON PRATT (0-2)

Senior Landon Pratt (17-13), no. 15 at 285, was eliminated from the tournament when Isaac Cox, a from Cardinal Community), won their wrestle back by fall at 50 seconds.
