N-P football controls its postseason future

Win and they’re in. Despite Grundy Center’s 35-8 win over Nashua-Plainfield last week, the Huskies football team controls its postseason future. In the race for the last two of the four playoff spots in Class A District 4, N-P and BCLUW have identical records, 2-2 in district and 4-2 overall. N-P holds the tiebreaker because of its 20-6 win on Sept. 24. N-P would clinch the No. 3 spot with wins over its last two opponents of the regular season, AGWSR and Hudson, who are both 2-3 in district. N-P wins 1 set in loss to St. Ansgar

Saint Ansgar snapped Nashua-Plainfield volleyball’s win streak at two Thursday night. The Saints (14-10) defeated the Huskies (5-16) by a score of 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 16-25, 25-17). Game stats for the Huskies were not immediately available. N-P took a 7-0 lead in the third set and went on to win 25-16. Duck season begins Oct. 1 in Iowa’s north zone

BY THE IOWA DNR Waterfowlers have waited all year for this: for the next three weekends in Iowa, there will be an opening day for duck and goose hunting. The north zone opens on Oct. 1, the central zone opens on Oct. 8 and the south zone opens on Oct. 15. Each zone is open seven days, then close for seven days, before re-opening. It’s good to be home. Just ask the Nashua-Plainfield volleyball team, which has won four of its last five matches, all played in the Huskies home gym. N-P football keeps streaks alive with 20-6 win at BCLUW Homecoming

HUSKIES LIFT SEASON RECORD TO 4-1 Nashua-Plainfield’s offense was really good at keep-away Friday night in Conrad. The Huskies rushed 58 times for 364 yards — both season highs — keeping the ball out of the hands of the BCLUW offense. And when the Comets had the ball, N-P took it right back, twice with interceptions. The 20-6 victory at BCLUW’s Homecoming lifted N-P to 4-1, keeping a couple of winning streaks alive. The man with a towel made complete sense. After a day of temperatures in the 90’s, the Nashua-Plainfield gymnasium was still toasty when North Butler’s volleyball team came to town on Tuesday. Doors were open and big fans were set up to to cool things down. Everyone was soaked, but at least one spectator high in the N-P bleachers came prepared with a hand towel to dry his face. Iowa DNR to host public meetings on Chronic Wasting Disease

By the IOWA DNR The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) plans to host three meetings in October to provide an update to the public on chronic wasting disease surveillance and management efforts. Meetings are scheduled for: Tissue samples collected during the 2021-2022 surveillance season resulted in deer testing positive in both Fremont and Greene counties – the first time deer tested positive for the always fatal disease in these counties.
