Nashua businesses to connect with educators this week

The Big 4 Chamber of Commerce is resuming its efforts to educate future business owners, leaders and employees. The chamber is putting on a Business Education Event from 2:15-3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Nashua-Plainfield Junior High commons to strengthen the bond between business people and educators. N-P volleyball closes out regular season going 2-1 at North Butler quad

GREENE — North Butler’s Bearcats we’re a point away from defeat when Olivia Dralle pushed the ball back over the net. It spun off the finger tips of a Nashua-Plainfield player going for a block and floated past the back line. The Bearcats got the serve back and got to work erasing the Huskies’ 24-21 lead. But, as North Butler looked to take a 25-24 lead N-P’s Bailey Fisher launched toward Paige Ripley’s set, and tapped the ball. The soft arch evaded the blockers. A Bearcat dig went awry. Down early, N-P football rallies for must win, clinches postseason bid (videos & story

ACKLEY — The Huskies had cause to be concerned early in Friday night’s game. Although the Nashua-Plainfield offense drove 65 yards on its first possession of the game for a Titus Evans rushing touchdown, it failed on its 2-point conversion attempt. AGWSR answered with a 75-yard drive capped off with a Kaden Abbas touchdown plunge and a successful 2-point conversion. The Cougars grabbed an 8-6 lead. After exchanging punts, the Cougars were back on a long drive to the end zone, but the first of seven turnovers sent N-P surging. FREDERICKSBURG — Kandace Huck beat Nashua-Plainfield’s sophomore cross country standout Thursday evening by nearly 2 seconds. Huck beat her best time by finishing fourth at the New Hampton Invitational with a time of 19:52.4. Her previous best was 19:54.3, set Sept. 22 at Pioneer Town And County Club, in Manly. Teammate junior Ellie Eick finished 32nd with a time of 23:33.6, followed by ninth-grader Jalissa White (33rd, 23:43.4, personal best time), sophomore Amberley Gerholdt (41st, 24:49.3, season best time), junior Alexis Weiss (47th,26:52.2), junior Emma O’Neill (50th, 28:26.8) and senior Sheyenne Bergmann (52nd, 36:00.1). SHEFFIELD — The Nashua-Plainfield volleyball team took its winning ways on the road Tuesday, defeating West Fork in three sets (26-24, 25-16, 26-24). The Huskies improved their season record to 7-16. N-P cross country races in Calmar; Huck takes first

CALMAR — Thirty-two seconds. That’s more than three Snapchat videos. That’s longer than you’d count between seeing lightning that’s six miles away and hearing the thunder. It’s also the time that lapsed between Nashua-Plainfield sophomore Kandace Huck’s first-place finish Tuesday night in Calmar and the second-place finisher. Huck won the varsity girls 5K cross county race at the South Winn Invitational with a time of 20:06.4. Central Elkader senior Hannah Asche took second at 20:38.5. N-P football controls its postseason future

Win and they’re in. Despite Grundy Center’s 35-8 win over Nashua-Plainfield last week, the Huskies football team controls its postseason future. In the race for the last two of the four playoff spots in Class A District 4, N-P and BCLUW have identical records, 2-2 in district and 4-2 overall. N-P holds the tiebreaker because of its 20-6 win on Sept. 24. N-P would clinch the No. 3 spot with wins over its last two opponents of the regular season, AGWSR and Hudson, who are both 2-3 in district. N-P wins 1 set in loss to St. Ansgar

Saint Ansgar snapped Nashua-Plainfield volleyball’s win streak at two Thursday night. The Saints (14-10) defeated the Huskies (5-16) by a score of 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 16-25, 25-17). Game stats for the Huskies were not immediately available. N-P took a 7-0 lead in the third set and went on to win 25-16. N-P volleyball defeats Clarksville

It’s good to be home. Just ask the Nashua-Plainfield volleyball team, which has won four of its last five matches, all played in the Huskies home gym. Nashua-Plainfield defeated Clarksville in three sets Tuesday night, 25-16, 25-14, 25-17. The Huskies are now 6-15 overall so far this season. The Indians are 0-11.
