Micro-brewery under construction across from courthouse

CHARLES CITY — Cory and Lanie Sanvig are planning to open a micro-brewery in October across South Main Street from the Floyd County Courthouse. Part of that plan involves some help from the Charles City Community Revitalization Facade Improvement Program. The Charles City Council will consider the Sanvigs’ application for $9,540 from the facade program. The Sanvigs estimate the project will cost $19,080. The building at 100 S. Main St., is the former home of Stock Glass. The oldest part of the structure is a shop built in 1940. Charles City to host flood map meeting August 14

News Release CHARLES CITY — On Aug 14, the IDNR and FEMA will host an open house to present preliminary floodplain maps to Floyd County citizens.  The meeting will be held at the Charles City Council Chambers at city hall, 105 Milwaukee Mall, Charles City on Tuesday, August 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  This meeting is open to the public. CHARLES CITY — The day had gotten unseasonably hot, but May 15, 1968, was otherwise just another northern Iowa Wednesday. Life for the roughly 10,000 residents of Charles City bustled along. CC’s Connell, Riceville’s Marr qualify for Drake Relays

DES MOINES — A pair of track and field standouts from the region will compete this week at “America’s Athletic Classic. Charles City’s Kiki Connell and Riceville’s Abby Marr have qualified for the 2018 Drake Relays in Des Moines. Connell, a freshman, qualified in the 3,000-meter run. Only 21 girls are accepted. Her time of 10:44.53 from a meet April 12 in Decorah is the 19th best in the state as of Monday, April 23. Connell finished sixth individually at the 2017 Iowa Class 3A Cross County State Championship meet. City waiting for right time to raze CW bridge; seeking more grants

CHARLES CITY — As the city waits for the right conditions to tear down the crumbling Charley Western Bridge, it’s hunting for more money to build its replacement. The exact date for demolition is still unsettled, but will most likely be in July, said Charles City Administrator Steven T. Diers. The Cedar River’s level will be a key determining factor. The water needs to be as low as possible. In the meantime, the city is considering contracts for grant writing and administration with the North Iowa Area Council of Governments. Lindaman guilty, again, but of a lesser crime

MASON CITY — With help from the Iowa Supreme Court, the state Attorney General’s Office, and an avalanche of his own court filings, Charles City’s Doug Lindaman, 62, has managed to get a felony conviction replaced with an aggravated misdemeanor verdict despite two juries ruling against him. The latest verdict arrived Wednesday in his third trial over alleged sexual abuse in 2011 of a 17-year-old he hired to do farm work. Jurors chose to convict Lindaman of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse. He was originally charged with felony third-degree sexual abuse.
