Construction Update: Clark Street trail, Hildreth reconstruction and South Terrace window project scheduled

These are some of the construction projects that local governments are taking on. Check back for updates.

Charles City

CLARK STREET TRAIL EXTENSION

DETAILS: This 10-foot wide paved recreation trail will extend from the end of theclark-street-trail.jpg existing trail at Terrace Road to the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Clark Street. It will include ADA pedestrian ramps, signage and other incidental construction items, according to city documents.

DATES: Construction must begin by Aug. 27 and be completed within 30 days

CONTRACTOR: Heartland Asphalt, Inc.

PRICE: Heartland’s winning bid for the project was $102,396

PRE-BID PRICE ESTIMATE: $180,000 by the city engineer

FUNDING: The city secured $144,000 in federal Transportation Alternatives Program funding.


SOUTH CEDAR TERRACE WINDOW REPLACEMENT

DETAILS: Replacing 324 windows on 20 buildings by the end of July at South Decar Terrace.

DATES: Work will begin by the end of June and is to be finished by the end of July.

CONTRACTORS: Steege Construction of Waverly with Atura Architecture overseeing the construction and contract administration.

PRICE: Steege’s winning bid was $156,651

FUNDING: U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Capital Fund Program



2018 HILDRETH STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

DETAILS: A complete reconstruction  of the street and underground utilities from Hildreth Project9th Street to Gilbert Street. The existing pavement will be removed and a new watermain and storm sewer system installed. The unlined sanitary sewers will also be replaced.

DATES: To be completed by Oct. 26, 2018.

CONTRACTORS: Croell, Inc.

PRICE: Croell’s winning bid was $1,288, 280.86, plus $34,352.45 to pave the alley next to the new Dollar Tree store.

FUNDING: U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Capital Fund Program
