CHARLES CITY — After giving up a safety to open the game and going down 9-0 in the first quarter, the Charles City Comets offense churned out two touchdowns in the second quarter on the way to a 21-9 home victory Friday. Comet football falls 7-6 in Cresco; plus scores from around the state
CRESCO — Crestwood defeated Charles City by one extra point kick Friday night in Cresco, 7-6. The Cadets and Comets played in heavy rain, which contributed to multiple fumbles throughout the game. The first half was scoreless. Crestwood scored first in the second half on a run that ended with the Cadets recovering their own fumble in the end zone. The extra point kick narrowly fluttered through the cross bars. Charles City answered when Marcus Cranshaw sprinted around the left side for a 14-yard touchdown run. School to School 5k and Fun Run is Aug. 25
News Release CHARLES CITY — Washington Elementary School is sponsoring the third annual School to School 5k and Fun Run that will promote healthy habits while showcasing the Charles City Community School District schools, plus the 500 North Grand building and Immaculate Conception Catholic School. Rockford places 3rd, N-P boys 4th at District meet
NASHUA — Rockford’s Kaden Lyman qualified for State Friday as he led the Warriors to a third-place finish at the boys golf District meet held Friday at the Nashua Town and Country Club. Nashua-Plainfield was fourth. North Butler was eighth. Lyman shot a 79 and tied for fourth individually at the meet. DES MOINES — Nashua-Plainfield’ boys 4×800 meter relay team finished 22nd at Thursday afternoon at the State Track and Field Championships in Drake Stadium. The team notched a time of 8:46.36.
