Wrestling State Tournament: Huskie wrestling for 3rd; 2 Comets aim for 7th

DES MOINES — The highest finish possible for area wrestlers at the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament is third place. Brock Dietz of Nashua-Plainfield will wrestle for that on Saturday in the 106 pound bracket of Class 1A. In the opening round, Dietz defeated Jose Flores of Sibley by a 7-5 decision and then in the second Cael Cassady of MSM by fall at 3:56. Jaymus Earl Wilson of Alburnett defeated him in the semifinals by a 6-0 decision. Two Charles City Comets are wrestling for 7th place in rematches against their opening round opponents. Clarksville, Rockford and N-P girls run strong at Class 1A State Meet

 FORT DODGE, Iowa — Clarksville sophomore Kori Wedeking had the top finish among Butler, Chickasaw and Floyd county runners Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Girls Class 1A Cross Country State Championship at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge. Wedeking placed 12th in individual results with a time of 19:47.3. Rockford senior Sheridan LaCoste placed 36th with a time of 21:00.8.         Nashua-Plainfield ninth-grader Aubrey Eick was 61st with a 21:29.5 The field includes 143 runners. Rockford, North Butler and Nashua-Plainfield were swept Friday night in Class A District 3.  Grundy Center defeated Rockford 49-0.  Saint Ansgar squeaked past Nashua-Plainfield 35-32.  West Hancock, Britt defeated North Butler, Greene 62-18. NASHUA — Juniors Zach Bushbaum and Nick Goodrich led the Rockford boys golf team to a first-place finish Friday at the Class 1A Boys Sectional Golf Meet at the Nashua Town and Country Club. Nashua-Plainfield and North Butler qualified individuals for next week’ district meet. At the sectional meet, Bushbaum defeated Saint Ansgar junior Dylan Low in a one-hole playoff for medalist. They were tied at 84 after 18 holes. Goodrich tied for third place with Saint Ansgar senior Ben Boerjan. They each scored an 85. Nashua to host boys golf sectional meet on Friday

NASHUA — The Nashua Town and Country Club will host a Class 1A sectional boys golf meet beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, May 12. The teams competing are Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler, Postville, Riceville, Rockford, Saint Ansgar and Turkey Valley. Sydney Fullerton of Rockford, after seven 9-hole rounds leads the East Division of the Top of Iowa Conference with  9-hole average of 49.43. That puts her third overall in the conference. Bailee Frayne of Garner-Hayfield/Ventura leads with a low average of 40.89. Her teammate. Carlee Frayne is second with 43.11. Rockford girls golf takes first in St. Ansgar; N-P’s Harrington is medalist

ST. ANSGAR — Nashua-Plainfield junior Nicole Harrington’s score of 50 at the Acorn Park Recreation Area in St. Ansgar made her the medalist of Monday’s Girls golf meet. Rockford’s Abby Murray (51) and Sydney Fullerton (52), however led the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock team to a first-place finish.
