Dangerously cold weather settles in

The blizzard is over, but the dangerous cold remains in north central and northeast Iowa as crews clean up roadways. “Gusty northwest winds will continue across the area into Christmas morning, but will be gradually diminishing,” the National Weather Service’s La Crosse, Wis., office says. “The combination of these winds and cold air temperatures will produce bitterly cold wind chills of 20 to 35 below into Christmas morning. Fayette County Court Report: Oelwein man sent to prison after probation revocation

Darrick Shawn Eubanks, II, 28, of Oelwein, was ordered to prison for up to five years after his probation was revoked Dec. 13. He was on probation after pleading guilty in in May to felony counts of willful injury and domestic abuse as well as serious misdemeanor domestic abuse. He was later convicted of escape from a residential facility. In September, he was arrested in Buchanan County on charges of domestic abuse, child endangerment an false imprisonment, leading to Correctional Services to recommend probation revocation. Oelwein School Board to meet Monday, discuss Sacred Heart HVAC and more

When the Oelwein Community Schools Board of Directors meets at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, it will have the heating and cooling system at the Sacred House school gymnasium on the agenda. The board is scheduled to discuss and then choose an engineer/architect for the gymnasium heating, ventilation and air conditioning project. The district leases the gymnasium for $1 with the intent of upgrading it, which initially meant getting it competition ready, Superintendent Josh Ehn explained to the board at its November meeting. Second of three people arrested in June drug raid sentenced to probation

Two people arrested in June when authorities raided a Wadena home and seized multiple pounds of illegal drugs have accepted plea deals and been placed on probation. Connie Marie Wilson, 60, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabidoil with intent to deliver (Class C felony), possession of marijuana with intent to deliver (Class D felony) and failure to affix a drug tax stamp (Class D felony) as part of an agreement with prosecution that included the dropping of six other charges. Two people facing charges after crash

A crash at about noon Sunday, Dec. 11, near Wadena led to citations against one of the drivers and a drug charge against a man in a trailing vehicle. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reports that it was called to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Filmore Road and Cedar Road. 2023 hunting, fishing licenses on sale beginning Dec. 15

By the Iowa DNR Iowans can begin buying 2023 resident hunting, fishing and other licenses on Dec. 15. Licenses purchased for 2022 expire on Jan. 10, 2023. The menu of license options includes the popular Outdoor Combo annual resident hunting/fishing/habitat combo license for $55; the Angler’s Special three-year fishing license for $62; and the Hunter’s Special three-year hunting license with habitat included for $101. Socioeconomic factor for IHSAA football classifications advances to membership vote

News Release from the IHSAA BOONE, Iowa – An amendment to the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Articles of Incorporation to include a socioeconomic factor into football classifications has advanced to a vote of the membership to begin next week.
