
A crash at about noon Sunday, Dec. 11, near Wadena led to citations against one of the drivers and a drug charge against a man in a trailing vehicle.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reports that it was called to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Filmore Road and Cedar Road. A 2013 Chevy Equinox driven by Kanyia Garmon, 27, of Burlington, had pulled out from the stop sign into the path of a juvenile operating a 2005 Dodge Ram truck pulling a livestock trailer. Minor injuries were reported from the collision and both vehicles are believed to be totaled.
Kanyia Garmon was charged with failing to yield upon entering a through highway, operating a non-registered vehicle, and failure to prove financial liability.
After the crash, Jaime Garmon, 27, of Burlington, who was following the Equinox in a 2018 model, let crash victims sit in his SUV, according to the criminal complaint. When a deputy went to speak with them, he could smell a heavy odor of marijuana coming from the SUV. Jaime Garmon was arrested on a charge of marijuana possession and transported to the Fayette County Jail.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Wadena Fire Department and Gundersen Ambulance.
