Rinkens bring home two state wrestling championships, 3 others place

Nashua-Plainfield is home to two 2023 Class 1A state champions. Senior Garret Rinken completed an undefeated season, 51-0, by beating Wapsie Valley senior Dawson Schmit (40-8) by a 4-1 decision in the 126-pound championship match on Saturday at the State Traditional Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines. His younger brother, sophomore Jayden Rinken (47-2), defeated Wilton freshman Mason Shirk (47-4) by an 8-2 decision in the 106-pound championship match. Seven Nashua-Plainfield wrestlers have survived the first two days of the State Tradition Tournament in Des Moines. Four remain in contention for first-place finishes.
