CC to conduct tornado drill on Wednesday

CHARLES CITY — The Charles City Police Department will conduct a tornado drill Wednesday, March 28, at 10:15 a.m. to coordinate with the National Weather Service’s annual drill, weather permitting. If you have a weather radio, it will be activated by the NWS also. Normally, Charles City will test the sirens during a drill the first Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. and will continue throughout the spring and summer months. Dr. Cox leaving for new job; Charles City School Board to begin superintendent search

Charles City School District news release CHARLES CITY —The Charles City Community School District Board of Education will begin a search for a new superintendent at Monday night’s board meeting. Dr. Dan Cox will announce his resignation at the board of education meeting this evening to accept a new position as Chief Administrator of Northwest Area Education Agency. CCPD returning items stolen from cemeteries

CHARLES CITY — The Charles City Police Department is trying to return items stolen from cemeteries to their rightful owners. “Back in December, we told you about a case where we had recovered quite a few items which were taken from area cemeteries,” says a post on the department’s Facebook page. “We have been returning numerous items to the owners since then but still have these items left. Weekend storm dropped up to 17 inches of snow

Nora Springs found itself digging out from 17 inches of snow over the weekend. Rockford had 16, while Charles City received 14. The snowstorm that began Friday evening, March 23, and finished Saturday, March 24, blanketed the region with up to 17 inches, according to a National Weather Service. 2018 Artafest accepting entries

CHARLES CITY — The Charles City Arts Center is accepting entry applications for the 2018 ArtaFest, which will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, in Central Park. The deadline to apply is July 6. To be featured on the website, entries are needed by June 15. There is a $40 entry fee for all entries and $5 jury fee for new applicants. To rent a tent is another $25. Spring clean up dates set in CC

CHARLES CITY — The city’s spring clean up dates have been set for April 23, 24,25 and 26.The guidelines are the same as last year, according to a city news release. For all of the guidelines for the clean up, click here. CHARLES CITY — Most of Charles City High School’s soccer players received their game uniforms Thursday, March 22 — which is a little more than a week out from the new program’s first game. This inaugural crew’s excitement manifested in selfies and the urging between teammates to “hurry up” getting jerseys on and joining group poses. County accepting applications for spring youth turkey hunt permits for Tosanak Recreation Area

MARBLE ROCK — Five youth permits will be drawn for the Spring Turkey Season at the Tosanak Recreation Area. Applications for the youth hunters will be due on, Sunday April 1, by 10 p.m. A public drawing will be held on Monday, April 2, at 8 a.m. at the Fossil & Prairie Center, 1227 215th St, Rockford. Five hunters will be drawn and are eligible for the youth season and all spring turkey seasons, until tag is filled.
