Public invited to Charles City economic profile presentation

Charles City Community Revitalization news release

CHARLES CITY – The state of the economy in Charles City will be the topic of discussion at a special public presentation on Tuesday, April 3, at the Zastrow Room of the Charles City Public Library.

Hosted by the Business Improvement Committee of Community Revitalization, this free event will feature Main Street Iowa Business Specialist Jim Thompson explaining the latest economic profile report by the state on Charles City. The Iowa Downtown Resource Center releases the ESRI economic profile data each year detailing census numbers, housing, market profiles, as well as where business/retail leakage is occurring and in what areas Charles City is attracting customers.

“This data helps paint a more accurate picture of where our community is … what our strengths and weakness are,” said Community Development Director Mark Wicks. “It can also be used to help point us in the right direction in terms of addressing those weaknesses and building upon those strengths.”

Thompson is a former Charles City resident, retail manager and city councilman who previously served as the local Community Development Director before going to work for Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority in Des Moines. He travels the state extensively assisting communities with business-related issues and improvement planning.

Again there is no charge to attend this special presentation at 5:30 p.m. at the Zastrow River Room of the Charles City Public Library, which is open to all. Local business people, in particular, are invited to learn more about the ESRI report and ask questions.
