N-P volleyball defeats Clarksville

It’s good to be home. Just ask the Nashua-Plainfield volleyball team, which has won four of its last five matches, all played in the Huskies home gym. Nashua-Plainfield defeated Clarksville in three sets Tuesday night, 25-16, 25-14, 25-17. The Huskies are now 6-15 overall so far this season. The Indians are 0-11. N-P football keeps streaks alive with 20-6 win at BCLUW Homecoming

HUSKIES LIFT SEASON RECORD TO 4-1 Nashua-Plainfield’s offense was really good at keep-away Friday night in Conrad. The Huskies rushed 58 times for 364 yards — both season highs — keeping the ball out of the hands of the BCLUW offense. And when the Comets had the ball, N-P took it right back, twice with interceptions. The 20-6 victory at BCLUW’s Homecoming lifted N-P to 4-1, keeping a couple of winning streaks alive. Owner wins a year to fix decaying Oelwein downtown building

The owner of a deteriorated downtown building has 12 months to fix it, according to a court ruling issued Tuesday. Denying the city of Oelwein the authority to demolish the building at 27 S. Frederick, Magistrate Judge David James Hanson ruled that building owner Gary Wright needs to rehabilitate and restore the building to “habitable, usable condition. Oelwein Council ponders $500,000 contribution for events center

The question for city staff was, how can the city of Oelwein contribute $500,000 toward turning an empty downtown building into an events center? City Administrator Dylan Mulfinger presented a five-year draft plan to the City Council ahead of its workshop meeting on Tuesday to try and answer that. It would redirect tax money currently used for such things as economic development, housing improvement efforts, library accreditation and more. It also would ask the Oelwein Community Schools to forego $140,000 over four years. Sieck and Sauser among the top 10 boys in Class 2A cross country

Starmont/West Central’s Charlie Sieck remains No. 3 in Class 2A boys cross country in the IATC’s weekly individual rankings released today. Oelwein’s Conall Sauser also stayed put at 7th. The man with a towel made complete sense. After a day of temperatures in the 90’s, the Nashua-Plainfield gymnasium was still toasty when North Butler’s volleyball team came to town on Tuesday. Doors were open and big fans were set up to to cool things down. Everyone was soaked, but at least one spectator high in the N-P bleachers came prepared with a hand towel to dry his face. Oelwein boys run away with 1st place at Denver meet

Conall Sauser, Ray Gearhart and Benjamin Driscoll finished 1-2-3 today at the Denver Cross County Invitational, leading the Huskies to another team championship. Sauser, won the boys 5K with a time of 17:10.9, followed by Gearhart at 17:24 and Driscoll at 17:34.3. Oelwein’s Jacob Sullivan placed sixth at 17:57.9, followed by Caleb Schunk in 10th at 18:38.2. Trio arrested on drug charges after search of Oelwein home

Authorities arrested three people at an Oelwein house on Saturday and seized a laundry list of illegal drugs and “a large amount of US currency,” says a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. This was the third time since 2021 that the Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 107 7th Ave., Oelwein, said Sheriff Marty Fisher.
