Fayette County Sheriff’s Report: Deputies make drug, child endangerment, domestic abuse arrests in May

From the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Hawkeye woman arrested on child endangerment charge On May 9, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at a residence in Hawkeye. The Sheriff’s Office received a report from that school that two children had not been attending school for weeks and were concerned. Upon and investigation that day, Jessica Lynn Mikesh, 35, was arrested and charged with two counts of child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. It was learned that Mikesh had abandoned two minor children to fend for themselves, leaving them in an unlivable home. Oelwein archers qualify for State Tournaments

Members of three archery teams from Oelwein have qualified for state tournaments this weekend — Wings Park, the high school and the middle school teams. The 3D State Tournament and the Bullseye State Tournament will be will be March 4-5, in the 4-H Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Wednesday morning fire damages Oelwein house

An Oelwein house was damaged by fire Wednesday morning. According to a news release, at 7:11 a.m., Feb. 22, 2023,the Oelwein Fire and Police Departments responded to a report of a house fire at a 501 5th Ave SE. Upon arrival, the smoke was seen coming from the residence with flames visible in the interior. Fire crews were able to suppress the fire with minimal structural damage. The preliminary investigation suggests an electrical failure could potentially be the cause. The Oelwein Departments were assisted by Mercy One Ambulance and crews from Alliant Energy. Oelwein teen charged in Feb. 13 house fire

Oelwein Police have made a second arson arrest within two weeks, this time a 16-year-old boy. The police and fire departments have completed their investigation into a Monday, Feb. 13, house fire at 632 5th Ave. SW, according to a police news release. APRIL 6, 2023, UPDATE: Chris Westendorf, of Oelwein, who is charged with second-degree arson, has changed attorneys. He is now represented by Gregory Schiller, of Monona. FEB. 16, 2023, REPORT: An Oelwein man is facing an arson charge over a fire at a house owned by his siblings where he resided. Oelwein man gets 30 years for distributing methamphetamine and obstructing justice

News Release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Iowa A man who distributed methamphetamine out of his residence, conspired to have a government witness assaulted, and sexually abused multiple women was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. Justin Michael Buehler, age 39, from Oelwein, Iowa, received the prison term after a June 9, 2022 jury verdict finding him guilty of two counts of distribution of methamphetamine. Driver unhurt despite SUV rollover

A Fort Atkinson man escaped injury Wednesday morning when his SUV slid off the road and rolled in the ditch. The Fayette County Sheriff’s office took a 911 report at 5:45 a.m. about a one-vehicle accident north of West Union on Hwy 150. A 2005 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Patrick M. 2nd drug warrant executed at same Maynard residence in 3 months

Fayette County authorities arrested two people after executing a search warrant at a Maynard home on Dec. 30. This was the second warrant regarding illegal drugs at the home withing three months, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Sydney’s Bridal is moving to Oelwein. The junior won the varsity girls 5K at the North Iowa Cedar League conference meet at the La Porte City Golf Course with a time of 19:19.6. Jesup sophomore MacKenzie Wilson was second with a time of 19:21.4. LA PORTE CITY — The Oelwein boys cross country team continues is season on fire, despite the chilly fall winds on Thursday. The Huskies captured the team title at the North Iowa Cedar League’s conference meet at the La Porte City Golf Course. Oelwein sophomore Conall Sauser and senior Ray Gearhart finished second and third with times of 16.38.5 and 16:49.12, respectively. For Gearhart, it was his personal best time. Oelwein, Monticello, Orange City, Pella, and Shenandoah are host sites this year for the Class 2A boys and girls cross country IHSAA and IGHSAU state qualifying meets, which all will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20. In the week 11 rankings released Tuesday by IATC, the Oelwein boys cross country team is seventh in Class 2A. Among Class 2A girls teams, Sumner-Fredericksburg is 16th and Jesup is 19th. Wapsie Valley is 14th in girls Class 1A. Individually, Starmont-West Central’s Charlie Sieck is 5th among Class 2A boys. Oelwein’s Conall Sauser is 13th and Ray Gearhart is 18th.
