
LA PORTE CITY — The Oelwein boys cross country team continues is season on fire, despite the chilly fall winds on Thursday.
The Huskies captured the team title at the North Iowa Cedar League’s conference meet at the La Porte City Golf Course. Oelwein sophomore Conall Sauser and senior Ray Gearhart finished second and third with times of 16.38.5 and 16:49.12, respectively. For Gearhart, it was his personal best time.
The pair were sandwiched between Grundy Center runners. Kaden Lynch took first with a time of 16:27.8 and Emerson Vokes was fourth at 16:58.8.
Oelwein, however, took first because it had four finishers in the top 10. Junior Benjamin Driscoll was 9th at 17:21.9 and senior Jacob Sullivan was 10th at 17:24.5. Sophomore Caleb Schunk took 18th at 17:55.
At 43 points, Oelwein was 11 points better than second-place finisher Denver at 54, followed by Grundy Center (3rd, 57 points), East Marshall (4th, 99), Jesup (5th, 123), Hudson (6th, 168), Columbus Catholic (7th, 174), Dike-New Hartford (8th, 251), Aplington-Parkersburg (9th, 253), Union La Porte City (10th, 267), Sumner-Fredericksburg (11th, 281), South Hardin (12th, 300).
