Former Charles City resident Jo Ann Schmidt passes at age 65

Jo Ann Schmidt, 65, formerly Charles City, died Sunday, April 23, 2017 at her residence in Smyrna, Tennessee. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m.to noon on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401, Blunt Street, Charles City. Following visitation per her wishes she will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date. Jo Ann was born on July 30, 1951 in Charles City, IA to Ransom and Jenny (Janssen) Bouillon. She attended schools and grew up in Nashua/Ionia, IA. Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Apel of Charles City passes at age 73

CHARLES CITY — Ronald “Ronnie” Apel, 73, of Charles City died Monday, April 24, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City. A funeral service for Ron will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City with Pastor Coulter Page officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Visitation will be held for an hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Charles City Schools to add soccer teams next school year

CHARLES CITY — Soccer is coming to Charles City High School next school year. The Charles City School Board  approved the addition of soccer to the 2017-18 high school activities. The district currently has an agreement with Mason City allowing Comets to play on the boys and girls teams. One girl and seven boys from Charles City are playing for the Mohawks. Nashua girls win home golf meet; visiting Osage wins boys meet

NASHUA — Medalist Haley Hillesheim led the Nashua-Plainfield girls’ golf team to victory over three rivals Monday at the Huskies’ home course, the Nashua Town and Country Club. Charles City Council to discuss Charley Western Trailway bridge demolition, replacement

CHARLES CITY — The bridge built early in the 20th century to carry cargo trains that much later became part of the Charley Western Trailway for walkers, joggers, bicyclists and more must go down and soon. Molstead Motors plans $1.3M expansion, seeks $38K tax rebate from city

CHARLES CITY — Mike Molstead Motors plans to expand with a 7,200-square-foot addition that will have nine new service bays. It is also asking the city for some help with the $1.3 million project in terms of tax rebates which could amount to nearly $38,000 over five years.
