Fayette County Sheriff’s Report: Domestic abuse arrests, deer and tractor crashes

Postville man arrested on false imprisonment, domestic abuse charges On Saturday, May 27, a Fayette County deputy took custody of Robert Williams, 39, of Postville, after a month-long investigation. Williams allegedly had been abusing his victim inside their shared residence and often would not allow his victim to leave the residence. Williams was arrested outside Postville on two counts of domestic abuse and false imprisonment and transported to the Fayette County Jail. Williams was later released on a $12,000 bond. Canadian wildfire smoke fouls Iowa air

IOWA DNR NEWS RELEASE DES MOINES – Yesterday an approaching cold front pulled smoke from Canadian wildfires down to ground level, and areas of unhealthy, very unhealthy, and hazardous air quality were measured across much of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Montana, Minnesota, and North and South Dakota. Twenty-four hour averages of fine particulate levels that EPA considers unhealthy for sensitive groups were also measured at Emmetsburg, Iowa, yesterday. Oelwein at State Track: Sauser takes 5th

Oelwein sophomore Conall Sauser took 5th in the Class 2A boys 3200m run on Friday in Des Moines at the Iowa High School Track and Field Championships. He finished with a time of 9:59.90. Senior Ray Gearhart was 24th with a time of 10:30.82. Oelwein shuttle hurdle team of Brock Steinlage, Matthew Bratten, Hayden Tripp and Garet Kiel finished 13th with a time of 1:04.34. Cedar River (above Nashua) Water clarity is muddy with high flows. Water levels are falling, but up about 3 feet. Water temperatures are on the rise with warmer weather.  Channel Catfish – Good: Try a dead chub or stink baits fished in slack water areas. Smallmouth Bass – Slow: Try fishing eddies and current breaks. Walleye – Slow: Use a jig tipped with a minnow or worm below dams. Fayette County Sheriff’s Report: Deputies make drug, child endangerment, domestic abuse arrests in May

From the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Hawkeye woman arrested on child endangerment charge On May 9, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at a residence in Hawkeye. The Sheriff’s Office received a report from that school that two children had not been attending school for weeks and were concerned. Upon and investigation that day, Jessica Lynn Mikesh, 35, was arrested and charged with two counts of child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. It was learned that Mikesh had abandoned two minor children to fend for themselves, leaving them in an unlivable home. Westgate man injured in Friday evening crash

A Westgate man was injured Friday evening in a crash at T Avenue and 110th Street. According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, it received a report about the crash at 7:48 p.m. An investigation determined that Ryan Ronald Steinbronn, 38, was driving a 2011 Ford F250 northbound on T Ave when the pickup left the roadway and entered into a farm field. Steinbronn was transported to MercyOne in Oelwein for non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle is considered a total loss. Authorities make drug arrests

A pair of eventful traffic stops, the second search of a Sumner home in six months and illegal drug seizures added up to multiple charges against a trio of people, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. The first traffic stop was on March 30 by a sheriff’s deputy allegedly for speeding in Wadena. Harley Dwayne Shuck, 40, of West Union, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine-third or subsequent offense (Class D felony) and was placed on two years of supervised probation. A sentence of up to 5 years in prison and fine of $1,025 plus a surcharge were suspended. Deer take out Fusion on V68

The driver of a 2019 Ford Fusion reported no injuries Monday morning when several deer raced across County Road V68. According to a Fayette County Sheriff’s Office news release, at 6:18 a.m. deputies were called to the area of V68 just south of County Road C33 regarding a report of deer carcasses obstructing both the north and south bound lanes of traffic.
