N-P wins District tournament, sends 13 wrestlers to State

Thirteen Nashua-Plainfield boys wrestlers qualified on Saturday for the State Traditional Tournament as the Huskies won the Class 1A District 5 tournament at North Linn. Huskies going to State are Jaydan Rinken (106), Nic Brase (113), Hayden Munn (120), Garret Rinken (126), Kendrick Huck (132), Kaden Wilken (138), Jackson Carey (152), Eli Kalainoff (160), Titus Evans (170), Tate White (182), Aiden Sullivan (195), Jackson Zwanziger (220) and Landon Pratt (285). Catch-photo-release tournament encourages Iowa walleye anglers to report their catches

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is partnering for a second year with MyCatch by Angler’s Atlas to conduct a statewide walleye fishing challenge starting May 1 through June 30. The Iowa Chapter of the American Fisheries Society has joined as a research partner for the 2023 challenge. Anglers will have the chance to win weekly prizes while also contributing to fisheries research, helping improve walleye fishing in the state. The Iowa Walleye Challenge uses the MyCatch mobile app to record the length of a fish. Vance’s State Tournament run ends

Nashua-Plainfield sophomore Kylie Vance’s run at the State Girls Wrestling Championships ended after two matches to higher seeded wrestlers. Vance (16-10), who was seeded 25th, lost by fall in 56 seconds to Spencer junior Kalee Nachtigal (38-6), who was seeded 8th, in their first round 190-pound match at Xtreme in Coralville. In her first match in the Consolation bracket, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley ninth-grader Kaylee De Jong (13-6), who was seeded 24th, defeated Vance by fall late in the second period. Nashua-Plainfield sophomore Kylie Vance is going to the State Girls Wrestling Tournament. The Huskies traveled to Luther College in Decorah on Friday for the IGHSAU Region 7 Qualifier. Vance (16-9) placed third in the 190 weight class by pinning Mason City ninth-grader Taryn Boehmer (32-18) at 1:23. Vance began the day by pinning Boehmer in 48 seconds and then getting pinned at 1:52 by top-seeded Kamyrn Steines of Decorah. Moving on to the consolation bracket, Vance pinned West Fork’s Harmoney Fessler in 13 seconds to get to the third-place match, where she faced Boehmer again. Vehicular homicide trial of West Union man scheduled in March

A West Union man accused of causing the death of a passenger last fall when he crashed the BMW Mini Cooper he was driving while fleeing law enforcement will go on trial in March. Curtis Allen Williams, 38, is charged in Chickasaw County District Court with vehicular homicide (Class B felony), attempting to elude while operating while intoxicated (Class D felony), first-offense OWI (serious misdemeanor) and driving while suspended or revoked (serious misdemeanor).
