Nashua AM Update: Windy day ahead, wrestlers win, Christmas in Nashua on Saturday

Good morning. It’s Friday, Dec. 2, 2022. Here is what’s news in the Nashua area.

• Warmer temps come with strong winds

Today will be partly sunny and breezy with a high temp near 48, according to the National Weather Service. A south wind 14 to 21 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph.

Tonight temperatures will drop to around 10, with wind chill values as low as -7. chance of flurries between 8pm and midnight. Northwest winds of 13 to 18 mph will increase to 26 to 31 mph, gusting as high as 48 mph. It will be cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing. Flurries are possible.

N-P boys wrestling starts season strong

The Nashua-Plainfield boys wrestling team hit the road Thursday night and picked up three dual victories in Garner. The Huskies beat Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 68-12, Newman Catholic 75-3 and Lake Mills 56-19. (Read More)

Tonight’s sports schedule

Tonight the N-P basketball teams travel to Northwood-Kensett. The girls varsity game is scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m., the boys at 7:30 p.m.

Christmas in Nashua is Saturday

Here is the schedule for Saturday’s Christmas in Nashua:

  • Heavenly Days Pancake Breakfast with Santa and presents, 8-10:30 a.m., at the Nashua Fire Station
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Craft and vendor show at the Gateway to Northeast Iowa Welcome Center
  • Holiday open house at Posh & Prairie, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring Dusty Roads Greenhouse and Baily Horn Creations
  • 9 a.m. to noon — Silent auction baskets at Compass Outreach Center
  • Santa and Mrs. Claus visit, 10-11:30 a.m., at the Nashua Public Library. Sponsored by Nashua Women of Today.
  • Noon to 1 p.m. — Wrap and Yap, noon to 1 p.m., Nashua Public Library. For adults only. “We don’t want those little ones seeing the gifts everyone bought for others,” says organizers. “Come enjoy hot chocolate, snacks and conversation. Bring any gifts that you need to wrap. Wrapping paper, tape, bows and labels will be provided.”
  • 2-5 p.m. — Tour of homes, sponsored by Nashua Garden Club. Four homes will be included. Cost: $10 per person
  • 4:30-5:30 p.m. — Tree lighting and S’mores with Santa, sponsored by Nashua Parks at Cedar View Park. $1 a pack with complimentary hot chocolate.
  • 5-7 p.m. — Nashua Garden Club Soup Supper, at the Nashua Fire Station. Freewill donation.
