N-P boys wrestling sweeps season opener

The Nashua-Plainfield boys wrestling team hit the road Thursday night and picked up three dual victories in Garner. The Huskies beat Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 68-12, Newman Catholic 75-3 and Lake Mills 56-19. N-P’s Kendrick Huck (132) had three pins at the quad. Altogether, the Huskies scored 18 pins. Deputies make domestic abuse arrests over holiday week

On Nov. 24 at 2:14 a.m., Fayette CountySheriff’s deputies were called to 320 Olive Street in Westgate in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon investigating, they arrested Jeffrey William Arthur, 54, of Westgate on the charges of domestic abuse assault while displaying a dangerous weapon (aggravated misdemeanor) and obstruction of an emergency communications (simple misdemeanor). He was transported to the Fayette County Jail.   On Nov. 25, at 3:57 a.m., deputies were called to 106 Mechanic Street in Fayette in reference to a domestic disturbance. Aplington-Parkersburg stops Oelwein girls

PARKERSBURG — Aplington-Parkersburg made 13 3-pointers as they won 60-25 over the visiting Oelwein girls basketball team. A-P’s Ellen Waller sank six of those 3-pointers as she put up 21 points to lead all scorers. Ninth-grader McKinzie See led Oelwein with 16 points. The Falcons improved to 2-0. Alabama man charged in New Hampton hotel sex abuse case

An Alabama man is in Chickasaw County jail accused of sexually abusing a woman in June at a New Hampton hotel. Quenton O’Neal Sanders, 32, of Marion, Alabama, is charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony, in Chickasaw County District Court. He is accused of performing a sex act on a woman against her will around 9 a.m. June 11 at a hotel in New Hampton. According to the criminal complaint, the woman was staying at the hotel with a friend, who left their room when they were sleeping. CC girls drop home game to Indee

Independence took a 15-3 lead in the first quarter of Monday’s girls basketball game in Charles City on the way to a 64-36 win. The Comets outscored the Mustangs 15-14 in the second quarter, but Independence dominated the second half. Seniors Delaney Ruzicka and Ava Ellis each scored 12 points to lead the Comets. Ellis netted 7 points at the free throw line. Ruzicka led Charles City with 10 rebounds. The Comets are now 0-2. Independence is 1-0. The Nashua-Plainfield girls wrestling team traveled to Elkader on Monday and brought home three individual first-place finishes from the Central Scramble tournament. Ryan Reams captured first in the 115C weight class by pinning New Hampton’s Kaylee Wertz in 49 seconds, teammate Lillie Caster at 2:00 and Denver’s Jules Neubauer in 52 seconds. Charles City’s girls wrestling team entered eight members in the Central Scramble in Elkader on Monday and captured three first-, three second- and two third-place weight class finishes. Pair rescued from rolled pickup Thanksgiving morning

After a rollover crash south of Elgin on Thursday, Nov. 24, occupants of the pickup were trapped inside. The Elgin Fire Department helped get them out. The pair was transported to Palmer Gunderson Hospital in West Union with minor injuries. At 4:47 a.m. on Thanksgiving, Fayette County deputies were called to the 19,000 block of Cedar Road because of a single vehicle rollover accident.
