CC girls wrestling: Everyone gets a pin at Monday tournament

Charles City’s girls wrestling team entered eight members in the Central Scramble in Elkader on Monday and captured three first-, three second- and two third-place weight class finishes.

Each Comet had at least one pin. As a team they scored 11 falls.

Lilly Luft took first at 135 with a pair of pins and one decision. She won by fall in 55 seconds over Union’s Ava Mehlert and Anastasia Simon at 1:03. She won a 10-3 decision over Independence’s Dakota Whitman.

Ava Thompson took first place in 235 Exhibition, by winning both her matches by fall. She pinned New Hampton’s Irelynn Bodensteiner at 1:45 and New Hampton’s Elizabeth Deere at 1:46.

Kylie Blunt took first at 130B by pinning her lone opponent Central Elkader’s Kimberly Suhr in 27 seconds.

Nyssa Salinas took second at 170B. After Decorah’s Camielle Wiedow defeated her by fall at 1:08, Salinas pinned West Delaware’s Ella Goedken at 4:44 and Alburnett’s Cutter Shefelbine at 1:29.

Elizabeth Oleson placed second at 140. New Hampton’s Keira Myers defeated her by fall at 1:30, but then Oleson pinned Decorah’s McKenzie Tollefson at 1:45.

Leah Stewart placed second at 190. After South Winneshiek’s Isabelle Kipp defeated her by fall in 35 seconds, Stewart pinned Decorah’s Isabelle Alley in 23 seconds.

Tegan Cavanaugh took third in 120B, by going 1-2 in matches. Central Elkader’s Tori Sylvester defeated her by a 6-4 decision and South Winneshiek’s Josseline Hageman won by pin at 2:59. Cavanaugh won her third round match by fall at 4:00 over Independence’s Alina Ajruloski.

Morgan Maloy took third at 145 by rebounding for a win in her third match, pinning Bellevue’s Ryanne Dunn at 1:33. Malloy lost by fall to MFL MarMac’s Mackenzie at 4:48 and New Hampton’s Ali Russler at 1:56 in the first two rounds.
