Independence took a 15-3 lead in the first quarter of Monday’s girls basketball game in Charles City on the way to a 64-36 win.
The Comets outscored the Mustangs 15-14 in the second quarter, but Independence dominated the second half.
Seniors Delaney Ruzicka and Ava Ellis each scored 12 points to lead the Comets. Ellis netted 7 points at the free throw line.
Ruzicka led Charles City with 10 rebounds.
The Comets are now 0-2. Independence is 1-0.
