N-P splits hoops doubleheader with North Butler

It was by no means emphatic, but Corbin Lewis’s third-quarter dunk made a statement. North Butler was not going away. Nashua-Plainfield went into the half of Monday night’s home boys basketball game with a 27-24 lead. The Bearcats then opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run capped off with the dunk to give them a 30-27 lead. N-P’s Bo Harrington then nailed the first of his two 3 pointers to tie game at 30-30. WATERLOO — The Nashua-Plainfield boys wrestling team went 2-2 in team duals with 26 pins at the Battle of Waterloo on Friday and Saturday at Young Arena. N-P defeated Independence, 41-31, and Wapsie Valley, 38-33. PHOTOS: Luft wins 100th as Charles City wrestlers compete at Battle of Waterloo

Lily Luft notched her 100th career win on Saturday as the Charles City girls wrestling team won one dual during the two-day Battle of Waterloo. The Comets defeated Dallas Center-Grimes 42-33. Luft had five wins on the day int he 135-pound weight class, all by pin. Elizabeth Oleson at 140 won four matches by fall. Leah Stewart at 190 won three matches by fall and one by decision in a tiebreaker. Katelyn Miller at 125 and Destiney Kolheim at 155 each had three pins. Oelwein School Board to meet Monday, discuss Sacred Heart HVAC and more

When the Oelwein Community Schools Board of Directors meets at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, it will have the heating and cooling system at the Sacred House school gymnasium on the agenda. The board is scheduled to discuss and then choose an engineer/architect for the gymnasium heating, ventilation and air conditioning project. The district leases the gymnasium for $1 with the intent of upgrading it, which initially meant getting it competition ready, Superintendent Josh Ehn explained to the board at its November meeting. Second of three people arrested in June drug raid sentenced to probation

Two people arrested in June when authorities raided a Wadena home and seized multiple pounds of illegal drugs have accepted plea deals and been placed on probation. Connie Marie Wilson, 60, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabidoil with intent to deliver (Class C felony), possession of marijuana with intent to deliver (Class D felony) and failure to affix a drug tax stamp (Class D felony) as part of an agreement with prosecution that included the dropping of six other charges. Two people facing charges after crash

A crash at about noon Sunday, Dec. 11, near Wadena led to citations against one of the drivers and a drug charge against a man in a trailing vehicle. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reports that it was called to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Filmore Road and Cedar Road. A 2013 Chevy Equinox driven by Kanyia Garmon, 27, of Burlington, had pulled out from the stop sign into the path of a juvenile operating a 2005 Dodge Ram truck pulling a livestock trailer. Nashua-Plainfield’s boys wrestling team came in second at its home tournament on Saturday. The Huskies finished with 226.5 team points in the 16-team field. Wilton was first with 235.5.
