NASHUA — Soon-to-be graduates from Nashua-Plainfield High School are less than three weeks from graduation. On May 16, their Baccalaureate begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Senior Awards at 7:30 p.m. In the school gymnasium. Graduation is at 2:30 p.m. May 20 in the gymnasium. Connell, Marr compete at Drake Relays

DES MOINES — Charles City’s lone qualifier for this year’s Drake Relays placed 22nd in the finals of the high school girls 3,000-meter run. Her time was 11 minutes, 9.85 seconds. Connell’s season best so far is 10:43.53. Ellie Friesen, of Crestwood, took first in the 3000 with a time of 9:50.44. Riceville junior Abby Marr placed 13th in girls high school shot put. Floyd County jail, courthouse referendum passes

CHARLES CITY — Floyd County voters on Tuesday approved a bond referendum to upgrade the courthouse and build a new jail and law enforcement center. The county can now borrow up to $13.5 million for the project. The unofficial results show the referendum passing by 68.72 percent. The county needed 60 percent. DNR news release Hunter Education Classroom courses are offered by knowledgeable and certified volunteer instructors and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers. Authorities release name of third victim in April 20 crash

CHARLES CITY — Authorities have released the name of the third man to die as the result of two pickup trucks colliding Friday, April 20, at 210th and Woodside Avenue outside Charles City. Douglas Lee Mack, 60, of Charles City was driving the 2002 GMC Sierra that was struck by the 2011 Dodge Ram that went through a stop sign. The State Patrol did not immediately release his name. Farm equipment part of two Floyd County accidents

FLOYD COUNTY — Two accidents on roads in Floyd County on Monday invoked farm implements. No injuries were reported. According to the Sheriff’s Department, a car rear-ended a cultivator being pulled by a tractor on Floyd Line Street and Victory Avenue. The southbound cat failed to slow down and hit the implement. Another accident occurred later on Zinnia Ave and 210th St. No injuries, a northbound tractor pulling a cultivator clipped a southbound truck, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Ice Cream Ticket Season begins May 15 in Nashua

NASHUA — It’s almost Ice Cream Ticket Season! Just last Wednesday, April 18, a record 6.6 inches of snow fell across Charles City and the Comets’ home course. City waiting for right time to raze CW bridge; seeking more grants

CHARLES CITY — As the city waits for the right conditions to tear down the crumbling Charley Western Bridge, it’s hunting for more money to build its replacement. The exact date for demolition is still unsettled, but will most likely be in July, said Charles City Administrator Steven T. Diers. The Cedar River’s level will be a key determining factor.
