WF boys escape Nashua with a win

West Fork (6-1) beat Nashua-Plainfield 54-47 in Friday night’s game that was relocated from the WarHawks’ home to Nashua. A fire in West Fork’s shot clock forced the switch. N-P’s Bo Harrington led the Huskies with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Joel Winter had 10. Tucker Franzen added 4 and Landon Foelske and Matthew Malven each scored. West Fork held a 10-point lead by halftime, but N-P tightened its defenses took a 38-37 lead by the end of the third quarter. The WarHawks sealed the win by outscoring the Huskies 17-9 in the fourth. WF girls win relocated game against N-P

West Fork made itself right at home Friday, defeating Nashua-Plainfield 59-27. The WarHawks are now 9-0. N-P is 2-7. Leah Weaver led West Fork scorers with 20 points. Kandace Huck and Jaylynn Pratt each scored 8 to lead N-P, followed by Marleigh Lowe, Bailey Fisher and Paige Franzen with 3 apiece. Myranda Webster scored 2. Originally scheduled as an away game at West Fork, but a fire in a shot clock there forced it to be relocated to Nashua. Up next: N-P travels to Rockford (1-8) on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Shot clock fire in West Fork means N-P gets home games on Friday

Turns out Nashua-Plainfield will be playing basketball at home on Friday. The boys and girls varsity squads had been scheduled to travel, but West Fork suffered a fire in a shot clock. After contacting N-P Activities Director Suzy Turner on Tuesday about the broken shot clock, West Fork confirmed on Thursday that it could not host the games and asked to flip-flop the schedule. Nashua logo contest headed for a runoff

The vote for a new city logo for Nashua is heading for a runoff. The Big 4 Chamber of Commerce held a logo design contest in December, putting out a call to the general public for new logos for the city. Val Johnson from the chamber attended Monday’s Nashua City Council meeting and gave an update. The Chamber asked people to vote for their favorite design via Facebook. Only one vote separated the top two designs, Johnson said, according to meeting minutes. N-P girls compete at Osage wrestling tournament

The Nashua-Plainfield girls wrestling team competed Monday at a 19-team tournament in Osage. Huskies Sara Babu and Ryan Reams place 4th and 7th, respectively, in their weight classes. At 100, Sara Babu went 2-2 and received a bye. She finished 4th. She pinned Annabelle Rohret of Cedar Falls at 5:45 and won a 15-11 decision over Hailey Peterson of Perry. She received one bye and lost to Gable Heman of Osage by fall and Mia Kurth of Waukon by pin at 43 seconds. At 115, Ryan Reams went 3-1 and placed 7th. IOWA DNR The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will release trout in five locations across Iowa this winter in areas that would not support them during warmer months. Winter trout stockings are a great place to take kids to catch their first fish. A small split shot and a hook with almost any kind of bait will catch trout.   The popular program is supported by the sales of the trout fee. Dangerously cold weather settles in

The blizzard is over, but the dangerous cold remains in north central and northeast Iowa as crews clean up roadways. “Gusty northwest winds will continue across the area into Christmas morning, but will be gradually diminishing,” the National Weather Service’s La Crosse, Wis., office says. “The combination of these winds and cold air temperatures will produce bitterly cold wind chills of 20 to 35 below into Christmas morning.
