Duffield sentenced over fairgrounds damage

Isaiah Cecil Hakeem Duffield, 20, of Ridgeway, pleaded guilty to the amended charge of third-degree criminal mischief (aggravated misdemeanor) and was sentenced to 270 days in jail with credit for time served. An $855 fine and surcharge were suspended. He was ordered to pay $2,500 in restitution. He was originally charged with second-degree criminal mischief (Class D felony). According to the criminal complaint, Duffield and four others, including three juveniles, caused more than $9,000 damage to freestanding bathrooms and fencing at the Fayette County Fairgrounds on June 20, 2021. Fayette man accused of Sumner thefts

A Fayette man is facing multiple charges, including a felony count, after allegedly breaking into at least 10 vehicles at a Sumner business. Following a search of his Chevrolet K1500 extended cab pickup, Justin Troy Steinbronn, 33, was arrested and charged with second-degree theft (Class D felony), and 10 counts of vehicle burglary (aggravated misdemeanors), says a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Reports supplied by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Friday, Feb. 3 At 7:17 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car vs. deer accident on V68 north of 255th Street. Upon further investigation, the driver of the 2023 Toyota Highlander, Lisa M. Kleiss 60, of Fredericksburg, was traveling south when a couple of deer entered the roadway. Kleiss was unable to stop and struck the deer. The Toyota sustained approximately $6,000 in damage, but no one was injured in the accident. Charles City senior Lily Luft (40-0) won the 130-pound title Friday night with a 9-0 major decision over Chloe Sanders (47-5), a ninth-grader from Vinton-Shellsburg who was seeded No. 2. Luft was the top seed. Luft was dominant throughout the two-day IGHSAU Championships in Coralville. She had two first period pins and three major decisions. Including Luft, five Comets qualified for State, but four were finished on Thursday. Ava Thompson and Leah Stewart started strong by securing first match pins. Oelwein’s Hartman finishes 3-2 at State tournament

Oelwein sophomore Ryley Hartman’s season ended today (Friday, Feb. 3) at the IGHSAU State Wrestling Championships in Coralville. She posted a 3-2 record in the tournament and 34-11 for the season. In the opening round on Thursday, Hartman, seeded 13th in the 110 weight class, defeated Mason City sophomore Lila Sheehan (29-9), who was seeded 20th. Nashua-Plainfield sophomore Kylie Vance’s run at the State Girls Wrestling Championships ended after two matches to higher seeded wrestlers. Vance (16-10), who was seeded 25th, lost by fall in 56 seconds to Spencer junior Kalee Nachtigal (38-6), who was seeded 8th, in their first round 190-pound match at Xtreme in Coralville. Sumner-Fredericksburg junior Hillary Trainor (40-5) placed fourth in the 105 weight class at the IGHSAU State Wrestling Championships. She opened tournament at Xtreme Arena in Coralville on Thursday by winning four straight matches . Trainor pinned West Marshall junior Brooklynn Rudkin (13-12) in 58 seconds. Trainor was seeded 3rd.
