CC’s Blunt takes 8th at State Wrestling Tournament

Charles City senior Kayden Blunt (29-7) placed eighth in the Class 2A 182-weight class at the State Traditional Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines last week. Blunt, seeded no. 8 in the 182-pound weight class, was upset in his tournament opening match on Wednesday. No. 9 Jace Mulder, a senior from Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, pinned Blunt in 28 seconds. NASHUA — Nashua-Plainfield and North Butler’s boys golf teams advanced to District play by finishing second and third on Thursday at sections. The Nashua Town and Country Club hosted the meet. Due to the impending weather forecast for Friday, the section’s schools decided to move the tournament up a day. Osage boys win Top of Iowa East Division golf tournament

SHEFFIELD — The Osage boys golf team captured first Monday at the Top of Iowa Conference East Division Boys Golf Tournament held Monday, May 7, at Ridge Stone Golf Club in Sheffield. In individual action, Austin Eckenrod of Newman Catholic won a playoff against Drew Olson of Osage for medalist. They both shot 75. First two games teach CCHS soccer key lessons

Tuesday was full of lessons to build on as the Comets prepare for their next game, which is Thursday against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura. Tuesday’s game against Waverly-Shell Rock was originally scheduled to be at Comet Stadium, which remains under a blanket of snow. Charles City received 3 1/2 more inches of snow Sunday.
