Huck takes 1st, Huskies 5th at Union cross country meet

Kadence Huck picked up where she left off last season as she took first individually in the girls 5K at the Union Invitational on Thursday in La Porte City. As a team, the Huskies finished fifth out of seven teams. Huck had a time of 19:20.9. Amilia Condon of Union was second at 19:33.4. S-F’s Trainor wins varsity girls 5K at NICL conference meet; Oelwein runners set personal and season records

LA PORTE CITY — Hillary Trainor gave Sumner-Fredericksburg another championship title today. The junior won the varsity girls 5K at the North Iowa Cedar League conference meet at the La Porte City Golf Course with a time of 19:19.6. Jesup sophomore MacKenzie Wilson was second with a time of 19:21.4. CALMAR — Thirty-two seconds. That’s more than three Snapchat videos. That’s longer than you’d count between seeing lightning that’s six miles away and hearing the thunder. It’s also the time that lapsed between Nashua-Plainfield sophomore Kandace Huck’s first-place finish Tuesday night in Calmar and the second-place finisher. Oelwein boys cross country places 2nd at Jesup Invitational

Oelwein’s boys cross county had two runners finish in the top five on Tuesday at the Jesup Invitational. Waukon, however, took first as a team, edging Oelwein by four points. Jesup Golf and Country Club hosted the 24-team invitational under sunny skies with temperatures in the 60s. A northwest wind blew at 15-25 mph. Sieck and Sauser among the top 10 boys in Class 2A cross country

Starmont/West Central’s Charlie Sieck remains No. 3 in Class 2A boys cross country in the IATC’s weekly individual rankings released today. Oelwein’s Conall Sauser also stayed put at 7th. Oelwein girls crack top 25 at Denver cross county meet

Jesup sophomore Mackenzie Wilson placed first in the girls 5K today at the Denver Cross County Invitational with a time of 19:54.1. Sumner-Fredericksburg junior Hillary Trainor was second at 19:57.5. Wapsie Valley’s top finisher was junior Ava VanDaele in eighth at 21:33.6. Oelwein’s top finisher was junior Rachel Rulapaugh in 20th at 22:50.3. Junior Libby Gearhart was 21st at 23:08.1.
