Oelwein’s boys cross county had two runners finish in the top five on Tuesday at the Jesup Invitational. Waukon, however, took first as a team, edging Oelwein by four points.
Jesup Golf and Country Club hosted the 24-team invitational under sunny skies with temperatures in the 60s. A northwest wind blew at 15-25 mph.
Starmont-West Central senior Charlie Sieck took second in the boys varsity 5K with a time of 16:17.1. Grundy Center junior Kaden Lynch won with a time of 16:11.3
Oelwein sophomore Conall Sauser was third with a time of 16:33.7. Teammate senior Ray Gearhart was fifth with a time of 17:01.0.
Oelwein is ranked third as a team in boys Class 2A, according to Iowa High School Track and Field plus Cross Country weekly rankings, which were released on Tuesday.
