Two arrested on drug charges On March 2, the Oelwein Police Department served a search warrant at 220 ½ 1st Ave. NW in Oelwein.  During the search, two individuals were arrested and charged with the following crimes: Joshua James Levendusky (40) of Oelwein was arrested and charged with; Brandy Lynn Schoultz (37) of Oelwein was arrested and charged with; Two outstanding Fayette County arrest warrants were also served on Schoultz. Nashua woman pleads guilty to pantry burglary

A Nashua woman arrested last fall for burglarizing the Nashua Area Food Pantry has pleaded guilty in Chickasaw Count District Court and was sentenced to probation. Desteney Dawn Olson, 42, reached an agreement with prosecution to plead guilty to third-degree burglary (Class D felony). A misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree criminal mischief was dismissed. She was placed on two years of probation on a suspended prison sentence of up to 5 years and a suspended $1,025 fine plus $153.73 surcharge. Former Oelwein man on trial for additional sex abuse charges

The trial has begun of a convicted sex offender accused of two assaults on teenage girls at their home last year. Isaiah Cecil-Hakeem Duffield, 20, formerly of Oelwein, is charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse (Class C felonies) related to alleged incidents involving a 16-year-old on Jan. 1, 2022 and and a 17-year-old on April 10, 2022. The Fayette County District Court trial before Judge Richard Stochl, began Wednesday, March 1. Twelve jurors and one alternate were seated on Thursday. West Union man makes Alford plea in sexual abuse case

A West Union man accused fondling a 16-year-old girl beneath her clothing has entered an Alford plea and is scheduled for sentencing later this month. Kyle Lee Wurzer, 35, of West Union, in his plea agrees that a jury could reasonably find him guilty of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse. He reached a plea deal with prosecution that includes dismissal of a Class C felony count of third-degree sexual abuse. Prosecution also will recommend a suspended sentence and up to one year of probation. Hawkeye man arrested on sex abuse charge

On Feb. 21st, at about 2:25 p.m. Fayette County Deputies located and arrested 24-year-old Gustavo Macias Torres of Hawkeye on a valid Fayette County Warrant for sexual assault in the third degree and dissemination and exhibition of obscene Material to a Minor. The charges stem from a month-long investigation completed by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Torres is being held on $12,000 cash only bond at the Fayette County Jail. Oelwein Police Reports (Feb. 9-13

Oelwein Police investigated a motor vehicle accident at East Charles and 1st Ave at 3:05 p.m. on Feb. 9. A Ford Edge driven by Dawn Ledesma collided with a Kenworth truck driven by Travis Michels. Initial estimates of damage were $1,500 to the vehicle driven by Ledesma and $1,500 to the vehicle driven by Michels. Michels was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. The Oelwein Police were assisted by the Oelwein Fire Department and Mercy Oelwein Ambulance. Sunday, Feb. 12 At about 2:10 a.m., a Fayette County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction at the intersection of 1st Avenue Northeast and 5th Street Northeast, Oelwein. Illegal substances were found and seized. Kashell Elexsis Allison, 29, of Oelwein, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance 3rd offense (Class D felony) and operating while intoxicated 2nd offense (aggravated misdemeanor). Tylor Andrew Richmond, 31 of West Union, was arrested on charges of first-offense possession of marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia, (simple misdemeanor). Duffield sentenced over fairgrounds damage

Isaiah Cecil Hakeem Duffield, 20, of Ridgeway, pleaded guilty to the amended charge of third-degree criminal mischief (aggravated misdemeanor) and was sentenced to 270 days in jail with credit for time served. An $855 fine and surcharge were suspended. He was ordered to pay $2,500 in restitution. He was originally charged with second-degree criminal mischief (Class D felony). According to the criminal complaint, Duffield and four others, including three juveniles, caused more than $9,000 damage to freestanding bathrooms and fencing at the Fayette County Fairgrounds on June 20, 2021. Fayette man accused of Sumner thefts

A Fayette man is facing multiple charges, including a felony count, after allegedly breaking into at least 10 vehicles at a Sumner business. Following a search of his Chevrolet K1500 extended cab pickup, Justin Troy Steinbronn, 33, was arrested and charged with second-degree theft (Class D felony), and 10 counts of vehicle burglary (aggravated misdemeanors), says a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Reports supplied by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Friday, Feb. 3 At 7:17 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car vs. deer accident on V68 north of 255th Street. Upon further investigation, the driver of the 2023 Toyota Highlander, Lisa M. Kleiss 60, of Fredericksburg, was traveling south when a couple of deer entered the roadway. Kleiss was unable to stop and struck the deer. The Toyota sustained approximately $6,000 in damage, but no one was injured in the accident. Stuck car, then a drug charge

It began with a car stuck in the snow and ended with jailers allegedly finding cocaine wrapped in money in a wallet. Jason J. Laurie, 43, of Oelwein, is charged in Fayette County District Court with interference with official acts (misdemeanor), public intoxication (misdemeanor), and third-offense possession of a controlled substance (Class D felony.). Vehicular homicide trial of West Union man scheduled in March

A West Union man accused of causing the death of a passenger last fall when he crashed the BMW Mini Cooper he was driving while fleeing law enforcement will go on trial in March. Curtis Allen Williams, 38, is charged in Chickasaw County District Court with vehicular homicide (Class B felony), attempting to elude while operating while intoxicated (Class D felony), first-offense OWI (serious misdemeanor) and driving while suspended or revoked (serious misdemeanor). A Hawkeye woman accused of attacking her husband with swords had her first appearance in Fayette County District Court on Thursday. Kim Renee Cannon, 58, is charged with attempted murder. Magistrate Judge David Hansen set her bail at $25,000 cash or surety. If she makes bail, she must be supervised by Pretrial Services. Hanson also appointed attorney Nathan Moonen, of Ossian, to represent her at state expense and issued a no contact order to protect Cannon’s husband, who was transported to a La Crosse, Wis., hospital with life-threatening injuries to his face and head. A Hawkeye woman accused of injuring her husband with swords is facing an attempted murder charge. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a 911 call at 8:29 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, reporting a domestic assault in progress at a residence on P Avenue in rural Hawkeye, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the residence where they found Cannon and then a 70-year-old man with severe lacerations to his face and back of his head, according to the criminal complaint. An inmate is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly assaulting a correctional officer at the Fayette County Jail this week, causing serious injuries. Jeannie Marie Murphy, 48, made an initial court appearance on Tuesday, Jan. 10. She was charged with attempted murder (Class B felony) and assault on persons in certain occupations using or displaying a dangerous weapon (Class D felony). Oelwein man gets 30 years for distributing methamphetamine and obstructing justice

News Release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Iowa A man who distributed methamphetamine out of his residence, conspired to have a government witness assaulted, and sexually abused multiple women was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison. Justin Michael Buehler, age 39, from Oelwein, Iowa, received the prison term after a June 9, 2022 jury verdict finding him guilty of two counts of distribution of methamphetamine. 2nd drug warrant executed at same Maynard residence in 3 months

Fayette County authorities arrested two people after executing a search warrant at a Maynard home on Dec. 30. This was the second warrant regarding illegal drugs at the home withing three months, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Fayette County Court Report: Oelwein man sent to prison after probation revocation

Darrick Shawn Eubanks, II, 28, of Oelwein, was ordered to prison for up to five years after his probation was revoked Dec. 13. He was on probation after pleading guilty in in May to felony counts of willful injury and domestic abuse as well as serious misdemeanor domestic abuse. He was later convicted of escape from a residential facility. In September, he was arrested in Buchanan County on charges of domestic abuse, child endangerment an false imprisonment, leading to Correctional Services to recommend probation revocation. Second of three people arrested in June drug raid sentenced to probation

Two people arrested in June when authorities raided a Wadena home and seized multiple pounds of illegal drugs have accepted plea deals and been placed on probation. Connie Marie Wilson, 60, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabidoil with intent to deliver (Class C felony), possession of marijuana with intent to deliver (Class D felony) and failure to affix a drug tax stamp (Class D felony) as part of an agreement with prosecution that included the dropping of six other charges. Arlington man charged in sex abuse case

After a month-long investigation, charges have been filed against a 44-year-old Arlington man in Fayette County District Court. Hiema Griffith is charged with second-degree sex abuse, a Class B Felony. According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Griffith is accused of sexually abusing a minor female on several occasions over the last year. After the investigation was completed, an arrest warrant was issued on Griffith. He was arrested at a residence in Cedar Rapids by the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
