A Hawkeye woman accused of injuring her husband with swords is facing an attempted murder charge.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a 911 call at 8:29 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, reporting a domestic assault in progress at a residence on P Avenue in rural Hawkeye, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the residence where they found Cannon and then a 70-year-old man with severe lacerations to his face and back of his head, according to the criminal complaint.

He was transported to a La Crosse, Wis., hospital with the life-threatening injuries.

Kim Renee Cannon, 58, of Hawkeye, assaulted her husband after a verbal argument, the news release says.

A deputy reported in the criminal complaint, “When I made entry, I saw the defendant sitting on the floor in the kitchen covered in blood (on her face and sweatshirt). I noticed two bloody swords lying next to her.”

Cannon was arrested and incarcerated in the Fayette County Jail on a charge of attempted murder, the release says.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by The Iowa State patrol and Gunderson Ambulance.
