Register by May 29 for Charles Youth Theatre 2017

CHARLES CITY — Registration is open for two week-long workshops for area youth during the week of June 19. Charles Youth Theatre 2017 is for students entering grade 3 to grade 9. The workshops will be held daily June 19 through June 23 at the  Charles Theatre, 409 Main St., Charles City. Workshop One is for students entering grade 3 to grade 5 will be from 8-10 a.m.  It will explore creative drama through movement, voice and stage presentation. Sign up for CC Girls’ City League Softball by April 12

CHARLES CITY — The deadline is coming up quickly to sign up girls to play in this year’s City League. Applications need to be turned in no later than April 12 to Stock Glass/Graphic Gallery in Charles City. It’s next to Subway across the street from the courthouse.  The $15 registration fee must be turned in with the application. Applications are available at Charles City schools and Stock Glass/Graphic Gallery. Practices might begin the week of May 7, according to the application. Charles City announces city-wide clean-up dates

CHARLES CITY -— The dates have been set for this year’s spring clean up! April 24, 25, 26 and 27 are the dates with mattresses and box springs being picked up on April 24. As in past years, the city asks hat you do not set out items before April 22. If you violate this rule, you may be subject to a nuisance citation. Chamber Orchestra brings Paris to Charles City

CHARLES CITY — A Parisian spring was in full bloom Sunday, April 2, in Charles City. Mezzo soprano Megan Grey and the Charles City Community Chamber Orchestra under the direction of John Chiles filled the 500 N. Grand Auditorium with the musical artistry for which it was created. Charles City: Ignore the hype, don’t flush the wipe

CHARLES CITY — City of Charles City officials have a request: Don’t flush even those “flushable” wipes. They are clog cornerstones. The city has posted its request on its website: “No matter what the package says, please don’t flush wipes labeled as ‘flushable’ down the city sewer. CC musicians test themselves at day-long festival

Charles City High School musicians spent Saturday at Crestwood Junior and Senior High School performing in the Class 3A Iowa High School Music Association Solo/Ensemble Festival. Choir, band and orchestra students made the trip north. An initial bus left at 6 a.m. for the all-day festival. Judges critiqued each performance, giving on the spot reaction as well as written notes for the students to review later. Charles  City National Honor Society inducts new members

CHARLES CITY — The membership of the 2016-17  Charles City National Honor Society is complete. New members were inducted Thursday night at a ceremony in the high school gymnasium.  Hanna Bjelica was the keynote speaker. She talked about her eight-week experience after graduating last year from Charles City High School. CC boys track team collects titles at Luther College

DECORAH — The Charles City High School boys track team collected a few championships and personal bests Tuesday at Luther College.Brandon Bluhm in long jump and Adam Stewart in the 200M dash each returned as Northeast Iowa Conference Indoor Meet champs. Bluhm won long jump with a 20-01.25 in the finals. Stewart won the 200M dash with a 25.10 in the finals.  Gavin Connell beat his personal best by nearly 5 seconds in the mile.
