N-P baseball snaps losing streak

SHEFFIELD — Nashua-Plainfield is back atop a wave. A baseball season comes in waves, head coach Levi Miller told his team Friday night after the Huskies defeated West Fork 17-0 in five innings. Those waves came crashing down onto the Huskies twice this week. Kee High on Tuesday pounded the Huskies 11-1. On Thursday, Don Bosco beat them 15-0. Those games were non-conference losses, however. Vintage toy buyer accused of double theft

A Waterloo man accused of buying vintage toys using money stolen from the seller has been charged with a felony in Chickasaw County District Court. Elvis Puric, 34, is charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony. According to the criminal complaint, Purvis went to a Fredericksburg address on Feb. 19 to buy vintage toys from another man. They made several transaction before the seller went to a back room to get a toy. PHOTOS: Tractor pull benefits Nashua causes

A tractor pull held Saturday, June 3, at the Big 4 Fairgrounds raised funds for Nashua causes. Handwritten signs around the grandstand announced that all donations would go to “Help Save The Cabin,” the Nashua Fireman Foundation, the Gateway to Northern Iowa Welcome Center, the Children’s Cancer Connection and the Big 4 Fair. Franzen foils, Kalainoff blasts Green Devils

Down by 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd, Nashua-Plainfield had a runner on base and needed something to pop. That’s when Eli Kalainoff stepped up to the plate. Statistically he was just the right guy to drive in the tying run. Through the first six games of the season, the freshman outfielder was batting .529 with seven singles, two doubles and 6 RBIs. Turns out he had a bit more to offer. Kalainoff unleashed a 2-run home run to put N-P in the lead. Games played on Thursday, June 1. TOP OF IOWA Rockford 10, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura 9 — GHV (3-3) scored 6 runs in the top of the 5th to grab a 9-6 lead Thursday night in Rockford. The Warriors (3-4) answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, and then 1 in the 6th to win. Ashlynn Grady led the Warriors, with three hits, including a solo home run. Huskies beat Saints, 7-0

Nashua-Plainfield’s Dawson Glaser pitched seven shutout innings Wednesday to ice a 7-0 win against Saint Ansgar. Making his second start on the mound this season, Glaser struck out seven batters while walking none and scattering five hits. In his first outing on May 23, he pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out 12 in N-P’s 5-3 win over Central Springs. N-P improved its record to 4-1. The Saints fell to 5-3.
