Fishing report: On Cedar River try a jig with a minnow or leech 

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources compiles a fishing report each week from information gathered from bait shops, angler creel surveys and county and state parks staff. These are area waters listed in the report issued May 4: Clear Lake Water temperature is 56 degrees Fahrenheit. The restrooms at Lynne Lorenzen and jetties are open for the season. Water Summary Update shows no drought in Iowa thanks to cool, wet April

From the Iowa DNR DES MOINES— For the first time in almost a year, none of Iowa is shown in any form of drought or dryness in the latest Water Summary Update.  Conditions in Iowa continue to improve, especially in the areas of southeast Iowa that had been dry over the winter. Thanks to a wet and cool April, there are no drought designations in the state and shallow groundwater is now rated as normal to above normal across the state. Fullerton leads Rockford’s division in girls golf

Sydney Fullerton of Rockford, after seven 9-hole rounds leads the East Division of the Top of Iowa Conference with  9-hole average of 49.43. That puts her third overall in the conference. Bailee Frayne of Garner-Hayfield/Ventura leads with a low average of 40.89. Her teammate. Carlee Frayne is second with 43.11. Downtown Charles City streets to be closed beginning at 3 a.m. for RAGBRAI vendor set up 

CHARLES CITY — With more than 20,000 bicyclist coming to Charles City on Wednesday July 26, the city is making plans for vendors to get set up. All downtown streets will be closed after 3 a.m. on July 25. The city recommends all food vendors set up between 6-8 a.m. on July 26 to allow enough time for inspections and to be ready for early participants.  The busiest time will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. as this is when most participants eat dinner, according to the city’s RAGBRAI website.
