Nashua-Plainfield has reached double-digit wins for the season as they barrel toward a showdown with the conference leader. The Huskies (10-3) defeated Northwood-Kensett, 12-1 in five innings at Stan Burkle Field behind a seven strikeout performance by junior Tucker Franzen. He gave up two hits and 1 earned run. Kalainoff homers twice in N-P’s win in Rockford

ROCKFORD — Eli Kalainoff wasted no time. In Monday’s first at bat, he planted a home run ball in the corn behind Rockford’s left field fence. An inning later, the freshman did it again, this time adding 2 runs to Nashua-Plainfield’s burgeoning box score. The Huskies went on to defeat the Warriors 18-0 in five innings as sophomore Dawson Glaser delivered an eight-strikeout performance in which he face only 16 batters, just one more than perfection. State aims to civilly commit sex offender

The state hopes to extend the incarceration of a former Dunkerton man serving prison time after being convicted in 2018 of sex crimes in Howard and Chickasaw Counties. Taylor William Jurgensen, 23, was scheduled for release on May 19 from the Newton Correctional Facility. On May 16, Chickasaw County District Judge Alan Heavans ruled that there is probable cause to believe Jurgensen is a sexually violent predator. He was ordered held in a state facility capabled of evaluating him prior to trial. N-P baseball snaps losing streak

SHEFFIELD — Nashua-Plainfield is back atop a wave. A baseball season comes in waves, head coach Levi Miller told his team Friday night after the Huskies defeated West Fork 17-0 in five innings. Those waves came crashing down onto the Huskies twice this week. Kee High on Tuesday pounded the Huskies 11-1. On Thursday, Don Bosco beat them 15-0. Those games were non-conference losses, however. Pair arrested on drug charges in West Union

Authorities arrested two people after allegedly finding cash and illegal drugs in a West Union apartment. According to a Fayette County Sheriff’s Office news release, at about 10:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, sheriff’s personnel, West Union Police and the Iowa State Patrol executed a search warrant at 116.5 S Vine St. Apt 4, West Union. Vintage toy buyer accused of double theft

A Waterloo man accused of buying vintage toys using money stolen from the seller has been charged with a felony in Chickasaw County District Court. Elvis Puric, 34, is charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony. According to the criminal complaint, Purvis went to a Fredericksburg address on Feb. 19 to buy vintage toys from another man. They made several transaction before the seller went to a back room to get a toy.   Armed standoff in Maynard ends peacefully On June 4, Fayette County Communications received a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Palace Rd and Hwy 3. It was reported that a silver pickup struck fixtures along the roadway and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was later located at a residence in the city of Maynard.
