RICEVILLE — The Wildcats will be looking for that 1993 magic — which is when Riceville won its lone state football championship — when they host Tripoli on Friday, Oct. 27. This first-round game of the Iowa 8-man football state tournament begins at 7 p.m. Both teams have 8-1 regular season records. The Wildcats’ only loss was to Tripoli, 30-34, on the road in the season opener. Tripoli’s lone loss was in the final week of the regular season, 20-78, on the road against undefeated Don Bosch, Gilbertville. Charles City announces expected street closures starting Oct. 29

CHARLES CITY — Bracket Street and 19th Avenue will be closed to traffic at the Canadian National Railroad crossings for the railroad company to work on and make repairs to the railroad crossings. Both crossings will be closed starting Sunday, Oct 29 and are expected to reopen by Thursday, Nov. 2. Motorists are encouraged to avoid these areas and utilize other routes to bypass the construction areas. Questions can be directed to the Charles City Engineering department at 641-257-6300. Charles City seeks winter workers

According to the city website, the Charles City Street Department is accepting applications for seasonal employees to perform snow and ice removal. The person will drive trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel, sand, and snow. The employees will be on-call and hours will vary from early morning throughout the day and may include weekends and holidays. Electrical problem caused fire that killed 6,000 chickens in Charles City

NEWS RELEASE from the CCFD: CHARLES CITY – On Monday evening the Charles City Fire Department (CCFD) responded to a fire at a building on Zoetis property, namely 2640 7 Mile Road. Major fire damage occurred to the building, with eight fire departments assisting the CCFD. Today, with the assistance of the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office and Zoetis, a determination as to the cause of the fire was established. It was found that an electrical wire began arching due to a malfunction which created a fire within the building. Marching Comets earn highest possible rating at state band festival

  FORT DODGE, Iowa — Beneath a darkened and stormy sky, the Charles City High School marching band performed the moody “Dark Knight” movie theme. Perfect. The rain also worked well with the theme to “Pirates of the Caribbean.” The marching Comets, whose show theme this year was “Heroes and Villians,” nailed their performance in the Iowa High School Marching Band Festival in Fort Dodge.
