Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock has joined a list of Iowa schools not playing varsity football this fall. James Grob, newspaperman and playwright, dies at 54

Contributed Obituary CHARLES CITY — James Gaven Grob died on July 5, 2022, after five years of battling cancer. He was 54 years old. He passed away peacefully at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City with his wife Michelle by his side. He was born on March 1, 1968, in Winona, MN and grew up in Oelwein. He was an athlete and part of the 1985 All-Conference Northeast Iowa Conference football team. He also participated in drama and speech. Turkey hunters reminded – new law allowing .410 becomes effective on July 1

IOWA DNR The Iowa Legislature recently passed a law allowing .410s as a legal method of take to hunt wild turkeys. This new law will be effective beginning July 1, 2022, and DNR will develop rules to implement the new law. “This is just a reminder to our hunters that our seasons and regulations are set up to a year ahead of time and, like other regulations changes, we incorporate the new laws into our upcoming seasons,” said Todd Bishop, chief of wildlife for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. News release from Charles City Community Schools FACE COVERING UPDATE  Thursday, 2/3/22 – 3:20 pm We have good news to share with our school family regarding the current illness rate in the Charles City Community Schools. NEWS RELEASE FROM CCFD:   CHARLES CITY – The Charles City Fire Department (CCFD) responded to a 911 report of a structure fire at 701 Milwaukee St. in Charles City at about 9:05 p.m. Wednesday evening. Upon arrival, smoke was coming from a second story apartment of the 6-apartment complex. Thousands of bicyclists will be coming to Charles City this summer as the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa will take a northern route. CCFD NEWS RELEASE CHARLES CITY –  The Charles City Fire Department was called to a house fire early Tuesday morning at 3:47AM, with a 911 report to the Floyd County Dispatch Center of a lightning strike to their home causing fire to be seen from the roof at the time of the 911 call. The CCFD responded to 2198 Old Highway Road, just Southeast of Charles City. Charles City Spring Cleaup

The 2021 spring clean up is back this year in Charles City after last year’s cancellation because of COVID-19. It will be different from past cleanups in that it is scheduled in two parts: From April 12-23 residents can order a dumpster that they have one day to fill.
