Huck breaks school record at conference meet

MASON CITY — Kadence Huck reset a Nashua-Plainfield High School record with her all-conference performance on a blustery and chilly Thursday at the Top of Iowa Conference cross country meet. Huck took second in the girls varsity 5K on the Northeast Iowa Community College course with a time of 19:44 and earned her spot on the all-conference first team. The boys team’s top finisher was Jase Hansen, who placed 28th with his personal best time of 18:47, earning a spot on the all-conference second team. N-P volleyball closes out regular season going 2-1 at North Butler quad

GREENE — North Butler’s Bearcats we’re a point away from defeat when Olivia Dralle pushed the ball back over the net. It spun off the finger tips of a Nashua-Plainfield player going for a block and floated past the back line. The Bearcats got the serve back and got to work erasing the Huskies’ 24-21 lead. But, as North Butler looked to take a 25-24 lead N-P’s Bailey Fisher launched toward Paige Ripley’s set, and tapped the ball. The soft arch evaded the blockers. A Bearcat dig went awry. N-P volleyball plays Riceville in regionals opener next Monday

The Nashua-Plainfield volleyball team (7-16) will travel to Riceville (20-14) on Monday, Oct. 17, for the first round of the Class 1A Region 5 playoffs. Game time is 7 p.m. The winner will travel to Rockford for the second round to play Rockford or West Fork. Riceville and N-P’s most recent meeting was the first week of regionals last year. The Huskies won 3-0 (25-16, 25-8, 25-20). In 17 meetings since 2008, N-P has won 15. Riceville won matches in 2008 and 2010. Charles Theater to host free showing Oct. 16 of film about human trafficking in Iowa

CONTRIBUTED REPORT The North Iowa Coalition Against Human Trafficking will present the movie “Gridshock” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct 16 at the Charles Theater in Charles City. Admission is free. Join Floyd County in the “Learn Something, Do Something” initiative to raise awareness on the horrible crime of human trafficking. Trafficking primarily comes in the form of forced labor and sex trafficking. Although the Nashua-Plainfield offense drove 65 yards on its first possession of the game for a Titus Evans rushing touchdown, it failed on its 2-point conversion attempt. Huck beat her best time by finishing fourth at the New Hampton Invitational with a time of 19:52.4. Her previous best was 19:54.3, set Sept. 22 at Pioneer Town And County Club, in Manly. N-P cross country races in Calmar; Huck takes first

CALMAR — Thirty-two seconds. That’s more than three Snapchat videos. That’s longer than you’d count between seeing lightning that’s six miles away and hearing the thunder. It’s also the time that lapsed between Nashua-Plainfield sophomore Kandace Huck’s first-place finish Tuesday night in Calmar and the second-place finisher.
