2018 Main Street Challenge Grant applications available.

News Release Charles City building owners in the downtown district have an opportunity to apply for a 2018 Main Street Iowa Challenge Grant to assist with bricks and mortar rehabilitation of buildings or new construction within the designated district. This would be a matching grant up to $75,000 toward an approved project. Up to 10,000 gallons of manure spill into Walnut Creek

RIDGEWAY, Iowa – The DNR on Wednesday announced it is investigating a manure spill about three miles north of Ridgeway in Winneshiek County. An estimated 5,000 to 10,000 gallons of manure reached the headwaters of Walnut Creek after a hose came apart during manure application, the news release said. “The spill occurred on the Kevin Moellers cattle confinement about 4 p.m. Tuesday. Moellers reported it to DNR at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday,” the release said. Pros cleaning up storm damage at R-R-MR

ROCKFORD — Professionals are removing downed trees and cleaning up the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock school campus, while programs have been moved off-site, according to a Facebook post by District administration. The severe storm on Saturday tore through the Floyd County city causing extensive damage. 17-foot flood crest would match 19th highest in Charles City

CHARLES CITY — Years with the number eight at the end are not necessarily good for Charles City when it comes to flooding. For example, on this date 10 years ago (June 9, 2008), Charles City experienced its highest Cedar River crest on record at 25.33 feet. Less than a week later, what is now the 9th highest crest pushed through at 20.12 feet on June 14, 2008. The flood of 2008 significantly changed the city. First Avenue closed during bridge work starting June 4
