Charles City awaits Army Corps of Engineers direction on trailway bridge

Lindaman asks for change of venue, an assistant attorney

CHARLES CITY – The Charles City man whose third-degree sexual abuse conviction was overturned by the Iowa Supreme Court because the district court didn’t adequately warn him about representing himself intends to do it again. Bridge demise forces Firecracker 5 re-route

CHARLES CITY — The demise of the Charley Western Trailway bridge over the Cedar River is rerouting this year’s Firecracker 5 race. City staff recommend approving changes presented last week by Community Development Director Mark Wicks. The new route will require closure of Owen and Jung Streets as well as Salsbury from Clark to Owen from 7-9 a.m. July 4. There are two races scheduled. One is 5 miles and the other is a 5K. Turtle may need protection during Charley Western bridge demolition

CHARLES CITY — A turtle species that’s endangered in Iowa might be hanging out by the crumbling Charley Western Trailway bridge. So, before demolishing the span, the city needs to know for certain whether wood turtles frequent the area.  Water clarity is improving with temperatures in the mid 70’s. Water levels bumped up with recent rain.  Walleye – Good: Try a jig tipped with a minnow or twister tail below dams in the pockets.  Channel Catfish- Good: Use dead chubs or stink bait fished from shore under a bobber. Find fish in brush piles and backwater areas.  Smallmouth Bass- Good: Smallmouth are hitting everything that hits the water. Charles City School Board approves Thomson option for North Grand building

CHARLES CITY -— Charley Thomson and his partners are now the proud owners of an option to purchase the historic building that had been home to the Charles City Middle School until last year. The Charles City School Board approved the agreement by a 4-1 vote Monday night. Jim Frisbie cast the lone nay vote.
